Trusted Partnerships, Safer Digital Futures Two insightful conversations on the margins of the Trust Summit brought together questions central to our digital future. The first, with High Commissioner Makoloo, explored Kenya–UK collaboration on AI, trusted allies and sovereignty: how we deepen cooperation while strengthening our capabilities and retaining agency over the technologies shaping our societies. The second focused on safety by design and the Child Online Safety Coalition, alongside two amazing teenage friends from Mtoto News who always keep me on my toes! Their sharp, confident questions on online safety challenged us to be clear about our responsibilities and how children can help shape the decisions affecting their lives. The future is indeed bright. This is the generation we have been waiting for: informed, courageous and ready to hold us accountable. Our responsibility is to listen, involve them and turn these conversations into safer digital experiences. @MtotoNews @GTSummit2026 @aladinstitute @ForeignOfficeKE @KenyaMissionUK @Uwihanganye_A @MMakoloo @SingoeiAKorir @MusaliaMudavadi @WilliamsRuto

Without truth, there is no foundation. You don’t know where you are, what you’re relating with, or whether you’re dealing with reality, fiction, imagination, or manipulation. Powerful reflections from Dr. Vincent Ogutu, Vice Chancellor of Strathmore University. Truth grounds us, and only by facing it can we begin to build lasting trust across our institutions, leadership, and communities. #TrustSummit2026 #WeavingTrust

Creative talent can generate wealth, but the right structures must exist for that wealth to reach the people creating the work. At the #ASPSummit2026 in Nairobi, renowned Nigerian filmmaker and theatre producer @BolanleAusten-Peters brought this into focus #ASPSummit2027

Dr Jakkie Cilliers is often described as “an African Futurist” who has authored a couple of thought-provoking books including this latest one - Africa’s Road To Prosperity: 10 Things To Know. He looks at main factors that will shape Africa’s economic and political future. I like the introductory sentence “This is not a feel-good book.” Haha. I’ll be sitting down for a conversation with Dr Cilliers at an event organised by @issafrica and @HSF_Kenya this evening.

In March 1921, fifteen-year-old Rose Sullivan made a decision that changed the course of her life forever. She did not escape through a crowded street. Instead she walked through the cold, dimly lit tunnels beneath Boston City Hospital, eight months pregnant, trusting a stranger who had chosen compassion over silence. Rose had been married at thirteen in an arranged marriage to Thomas, a man ten years older. By the time she was fifteen and expecting her first child, her life had become tightly controlled. She was rarely allowed to leave the house and had little say over even the smallest details of her daily life. One morning she pretended to be seriously ill so she would be taken to Boston City Hospital. Once inside she slipped away through a door marked “Staff Only” and made her way into the basement. Alone in the tunnels near the morgue she began to cry. Patrick O’Brien, a fifty-year-old morgue attendant, found her. He could have sent her back. Instead he said, “Follow me.” He led her through the underground passageways to the women’s ward. There she met Dr. Elizabeth Morrison, who arranged for medical care, protection, and legal assistance. By the time Rose’s husband discovered where she was, the opportunity to force her home had passed. About a month later Rose gave birth to a healthy daughter. In time she secured a divorce and raised her child as a single mother. Years later that same daughter returned to the hospital and spent more than three decades working there as a nurse. Rose lived to the age of ninety-three. Looking back she said, “I walked through death to reach life. Every mother does when she gives birth. I just did it a little more literally.” Patrick O’Brien later wrote that he had used “the tunnels of death to lead someone toward life.”
