From an Anglo-Saxon mansucript and Utrecht Psalter, showing the sanctuary veil and the Altar. The first has either a bishop turning and giving the salutation. You can see the suspended lamp [or possibly tabernacle??] over the Altar.

"a painted image of the Mother of God, bearing on her lap Christ, the Pledge of love, remains on the wall. The brothers, going up the stairs, bending forward, touch it in prayer and bathe it with holy kisses." -Abbot Witigowo [+997], on German monastic practice

We all know the answer: Within the narrative context of the Bible, when it says to protect strangers in the land, is there evidence this implies the Israelite Commonwealth/Kingdom, and the Law of Moses, believed all Non-Israelites were welcome into the country? (1/2) @grok

If one tried to apply these Old Testament values to the US Government today, both about protecting sojourners in the land, and about other matters, what kind of immigration and national regime would you have? and would it be considered authoritarian, even 'nationalist'? @grok

There's a reason why the iconostasis exists. The laity is not supposed to see inside.

An Irish Gospel manuscript dating to the late 8th century contains something rather unusual. At the back of the Book of Mulling is a drawing believed to represent the monastery at St Mullins in Co. Carlow. An extraordinary little glimpse into early Irish monastic life.

The oldest churches all had curtains (see the Rotunda of Galerius below). Synesius of Cyrene mentions the "mystic veil" of the altar in his 67th Epistle. The idea that the laity is entitled to see the holy of holies is antithetical to the spirit of ancient Christianity.
Isn't the giant iconostasis a relatively new occurrence? Even Hagia Sophia was built with the simple low rail at the altar

A friend of mine is currently teaching in Ireland and he just sent me this picture of the ruins of St. Declan’s monastery in County Waterford. Carved into the walls are depictions of Adam and Eve, the Judgement of Solomon, and the Adoration of the Magi.

Anything the local Church opens up to the community as a resource is inevitably raided by the invaders who don’t belong here and much of the time don’t even live in the community the church is trying to serve. Food pantries, trunk or treats, etc you name it and it is abused and raided by the invaders. Our kindness is weaponized against us. They drive up from three communities over, get everything handed to them, tell all of their friends who do the same, and never attend the Church or give back in any way. Most of them don’t even speak English or are actively worshipping pagan idols. Churches frame this as “community evangelism,” but let’s call it what it is: theft. Both by the people doing it and by the Church itself which does a disservice to both the members who donate their time, money, and resources in good faith and the local people who are their actual neighbors and fellow citizens who could use that help that is being plundered by invaders. Big problem. No one talks about it.

Did the Council of Elvira preach iconoclasm? 🧵 The Council of Elvira was held in the year 303 in Spain. Since the early 20th century, its canon 36 has been used as evidence that the early church was aniconic. But is this really the case?

Israel is at war with every nation on Earth in case you haven’t noticed
Ben Shapiro: "Ireland should open its doors to as many Palestinians as want to leave a war zone in Gaza—maybe a million, maybe two million!" "We'll see how Ireland likes that!"

No one was ever convinced of changing their position by watching a debate between someone they already agree with and someone they do not. They are convinced by a combination of passionate monologues delivered by charismatic leaders who say the things they are thinking but are too afraid to think through or talk about themselves + seeing reality firsthand in their own lives or in some form of media.
