STORY + DATA: The scale of Canadian efforts to boycott US goods is becoming clear.
New border data shows crossborder traffic has utterly plummeted in the last month. Southbound traffic during the recent holiday weekend dropped by more than 40% from last year.

Deleting post.
Grandma found after her part-time caregiver physically went searching for her and tracked her dkwn at Penticton Convention Centre. Deleting post. Seems like chaos that could have been prevented with better organization and pre-planning.
Here very briefly to say Grace and I are back on our shit over at The Tyee today, with an explainer piece about wildfire and a heart-tugging feature story.
Heading to Williams Lake. Will be staying over. If you live there have anything to say about the area (for a story) and/or want to say hi, give me a shout.
It's just incredible the damage being done to *gestures wildly* by AI. Is this real? Probably, given the other things going on. But AI makes everything that is genuinely spectacular a little shittier, just because you have to guess how real it is.
I mean, so did Lytton, Ashcroft, Agassiz and a bunch of others. The free Barenaked Ladies concert was not exactly hard to organize.
(Half of Lillooet ended up in Lytton today, including kid's seventh grade class.)
Port Coquitlam casually hosting a free Barenaked Ladies concert and family-friendly community activities over the holidays.
Thatβs how you build a city that feels like home.

The fact the majority of the public thinks X is not in the public interest does not inherently mean X is not in the public interest.
It was in the public interest to ban smoking in bars. There was also a time when a majority of public opinion had to be persuaded of that..
Alt headline: How a wealthy Kwantlen man bought Simon Fraser's life β and potentially laid the foundations for B.C. as we know it.
Canadian history is consistently more interesting than you think it is.

BREAKING: Officials in Sumas, Wash., immediately south of Abbotsford will be sounding their flood siren that warns residents to evacuate. This is a sign of likely flooding in Sumas Prairie in Abbotsford.
Replying to @ty_olsen
Over the last hour, the Nooksack overflow zone is now inundated. Another 'major' flood is now forecast. Still probably won't be as large as 2021. But a whole bunch of water is headed north towards Abbotsford.
BREAKING: The province has just issued a release advising Highway 1 could be closed with little notice. Both worrying and a sign of improvement from 2021. Highway 7 closed west of Hope.
Nooksack Watch! (If it happens, will largely take place at other site, which is less good than old this-site but better than current this-site). Graph here is concerning but need a bigger-than-forecast flood to impact Canada & Abbotsford
