Sure, a client could vibe design and code their own site, or any addition to it, but I still go to the barber and I'm happy to pay a good price for it.
Could I cut my own hair? Yes.
Would I look like shit? Also yes.
DIY has always been around. AI just made it easy to apply to the digital world. But DIY is always going to look like DIY.
Serious brands get this. They know their site is often the first impression people have of them, and they'd rather pay someone who does this every day than ship something that looks homemade. Those are the clients I work with, and they're not going anywhere.

The “1 prompt” slop engagement bait is getting boring. Generation itself is no longer impressive. Show me how you use your experience, taste and direction to actually push the web forward, rather than just doing what we’ve been doing for years, faster.

People tweeting postulates about Jev as if they've worked with it for decades, three days after it was released, is proof of how ridiculous the AI industry is.

For my soon-to-be-released DomGL SDK I render text on the GPU with the Slug algorithm, perfectly replicating the HTML text: font, weight, size, colour, tracking, leading, line breaks. The browser lays it out, the GPU paints it from the font's own outlines, one instanced quad per glyph. Sharp at any size, and every letter can move on its own.

we, as a society, have fallen out of love with the process. everyone wants the reward, but nobody wants to bleed for it. you have to become addicted to the daily, unglamorous work of stacking bricks. you cannot bypass the ungodly toll it takes to become undeniable. fall in love with the relentless pursuit.

It's sad to see how many of my students would rather perfect their ai prompt than learn a skill.

Hey @google I’d like to report an error.
The lake that borders New York and Ontario is an international body of water, and it is widely agreed by the entire world, except one rogue leader, that the name of this lake is “Lake Ontario”
Grow a spine and fix it.

Every animation I see these days has way too much bounce.
It instantly gives it an amateur feel.

One of the greatest cheat codes in life is to never get offended. Train yourself to have thick skin. Don't take things personally. Let others disagree with you. Being easily offended means you're easily manipulated. If you value peace of mind, avoid getting offended.

I know this sounds corny and cringey and naive and whatever, but Dolly Parton felt like America when it was trying to be the place it promised to be.

The thing I miss the most about coding by hand is the clarity.
You knew exactly what lives in which file, why you wrote a specific line, why you rewrote the other one, why you used this library.
You still can have such awareness, but it’s harder since everything happens faster

Here's what we've been up to these past months! A whole new design language for Rivian, across the vehicles, web, mobile, and even down to our internal tools. We put together a little something to celebrate the hard work that went into every last pixel.

Hi. Meteorologist here.
4% of the population is not going to die because of the very strong El Niño that is developing.
In 1877–78, we didn’t have satellites to spot hurricanes offshore. We didn’t have Doppler radar to detect tornadoes. We didn’t have efficient methods to mitigate drought. We didn’t have smartphones or TVs to coordinate disaster preparedness and evacuation. We didn’t have accurate forecast lead times because numerical weather prediction models didn’t exist.
Quit the fear mongering.
Thanks.
