As a Black pedestrian citizen in Baltimore, I find it important to contextualize the bike lane conversation through my Black lens. So here’s some perspective as I wrap up editing the video tomorrow. I hope @CCMiddleton6 keeps in mind the needs of us w/o cars.

🧵THREAD: Fox 45 News (@FoxBaltimore) - for several years - has been used as a tool of its owner, Sinclair Broadcasting (@WeAreSinclair), to forward a propaganda around Black inferiority.
What’s their goal?
✅Dehumanize Black people and Black children
✅Undermine Baltimore’s Black political power
✅Roll back the impacts of criminal/juvenile justice reform
✅Recruit Black people to their racist agenda by harnessing the worst experiences and perspectives held by our own community.

Another state moves against car bloat:
A new Maryland bill from @RobbynLewis46th would scale vehicle registration fees based on car weight. Owners of cars > 5,000 lbs would pay $229.50/yr, 4.5x more than cars < 3,500 lbs.
The hearing is on Feb 1.

E-cars were 9% of car sales in 2022, and the e-car fleet was under 17 million worldwide.
E-bike sales were at 275 million.
Politicians and policy-makers, stop ignoring, or underestimating, e-bikes.

Last fall I visited Helsinki, a city where crash deaths have fallen sharply (including a year without any ped/cyclist fatalities at all).
I asked an urban official what role technology has played in his city's safety success. His answer: "Zero. We simply slowed down cars."
