imagine if someone suggested cramming all these people onto the pavements to make space for motor traffic down the middle
remember when everyone was always like “the government would never let Aussie housing drop” and then the government actually intentionally caused house prices to drop
Utterly convinced the "I love winter and the clocks going back. Give me cosy nights under warm blankets with a pumpkin spice hot chocolate with rain lashing the windows and a £700 gas bill" people are just people who don't leave the house and they like feeling less bad about it.
easy to mock these people but it really should be illegal for real estate agents to give price and interest rate forecasts to anyone
It's the same pretty much everywhere with rent controls. A story from Berlin:
True in Spain too. Every landlord in Madrid and Barcelona screens the renters now. This is an obvious consequence of rent control. The most vulnerable, ostensible protected by the legislation, are in fact excluded from the rental market: if you cannot be evicted for non payment, then you are too risky a renter.

imagine if a pedestrian was waiting at that crossing. make motorists pay for pedestrian safety infrastructure

Being 10x more involved with your kid than your parents ever were with you, while somehow feeling 100x more guilty about falling short, is the official millennial parenting experience.

Unpopular opinion, maybe, but I have a real problem with the "turn down the temperature" on political debate line being taken.
Obviously we should generally be kind and respectful and treat each other as human beings, but my two major issues are these:
First, the guy who attacked Haines appears to be a genuinely mentally ill lunatic and to the extent he may have latched on to heated political rhetoric, it was almost certainly downstream of being mentally ill. You simply cannot have a functioning democracy if debate is hamstrung because someone somewhere might have a psychotic break and decide a normal throwaway line like "we're coming for Albo" means violence and not voting him out.
Second, people who say this mean YOU should turn down the temperature, not them. YOU should turn down the temperature if you're worried about immigration or upset about tax changes or skeptical about this digital duty of care stuff. They absolutely will not turn down the temperature on calling you a racist for opposing the Voice or a misogynist because you think we shouldn't treat young men like defective women or whatever else they think is out of bounds.

As I revealed on @news24 Outsiders, the Melbourne Islamic centre linked to the Omani hijacker received annual taxpayer-funded grants in the hundreds of thousands of dollars in recent years. Here are just two financial statements below showing govt grants as high as $834,211.
