An important read from my very good friend and colleague Martin Westin.
Nice to start coming back to the new normal!
Finally EC_SLU got back together after 2 years! It was great to be able to discuss the future of our research and education in the same room. Also to be able to reconnect and laugh in ways that are not possible via Zoom.

Really honoured to have been one of the supervisors of this PhD project. An important contribution to Land Governance in Sub-Saharan African countries. As well as the development of PhD education in #Ardhiuniversity in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Today Said Nuhu successfully defended his PhD thesis "Rethinking land access governance in Global South Cities". Opponent Griet Steel @UtrechtUni @LANDacademy An important milestone in @_SLU #ArdhiUniversity collaboration EC´s Camilo Calderon was part of Said´s supervisor team

Covid has forced us to find alternative ways to teaching. It's been challenging but also exciting to learn about and use online facilitation platforms as part of my course Conflict, Democracy and Facilitation. #facilitation #deliberation #participation #planning
We´ve had to find online alternatives to the all essential whiteboard for teaching multistakeholder collaboration & facilitation. Great to see how students are using these new tools for analysing Environmental Justice in Berlin, Melting glaciers in Nepal, NRM in New Zeland, etc.

Is there time for public participation when we need urgent action? Some friends and I reflected on why we should use the urgency of our times to rethinking participatory planning. This as part of our Swift and Slow @FormasForsk research project. More here slu.se/balancing-act
Times of crisis calls for swift planning. But we mustn't reject the ideas of participation, even though it implies time-consuming processes: slow planning. Instead we ought to rethink them. New blogpost by @MartinWestin74 @urbandifference Andrew Butler. vbct.es/3eAKd5L

Conflict and disagreement have constructive potential, they are a resource of creativity and can avoid exclusion, say @BergeaSlu and Lars Hallgren ... my good colleagues at @ec_slu #collaboration #dialogue #deliberation #planning
At @Skogsstyrelsen workshop on the 7 years of dialogue towards shared 'målbilder' goals in Swedish #forestry, EC´s @BergeaSlu & Lars Hallgren say: the search for #consensus should embrace the constructive potential of disagreement; #disagreement is a resource (details in thread)
I had the honor to be a co-supervisor to this fantastic PhD thesis. The thesis is a must read and an important contribution to both theory and practice of participatory planning. – at Stockholm, Sweden
Today was a very special day for @ec_slu. PhD candidate Martin Westin “nailed” his thesis: Rethinking power in participatory planning: Towards reflective practice. Available now here pub.epsilon.slu.se/16462/ Public defense will be Dec. 17th 13:00 at Logan @_SLU Ultuna, Uppsala

happy to share that @FormasForsk will finance my research project “A balancing act between swift and slow planning” exploring how to balance the need for swift planning addressing urgent sustainability challenges, with, often slow yet essential, participatory planning processes – at Stockholm, Sweden
