UPDATED: When I started collecting, there wasn’t a simple way to understand what One Piece vintage set came before what. I designed the guide I wish existed: a high-level roadmap to the eras/sets that shaped One Piece TCG over the last 25+ years.🏴☠️
2001 Chopper C528…new pickup, I can’t unsee the Windows XP wallpaper every time I look at this card. Blue skies, rolling green hills, not a care in the world. I’m officially nicknaming this one “The Chopper XP.” 💻🪟

Bringing the One Piece card timeline to life for anyone getting into vintage or curious what came when. A high-level guide to the major sets, highlighting key cards from each. I’m also recreating the original holo/foil effects in WebGL, look out for it Friday.
Beyond the cards: Japan, 2008. Banpresto produced these embossed One Piece card cases exclusively for its Ichiban Kuji lottery, not for retail sale. Fans purchased tickets, each awarding a prize from eight categories, ranging from large figures to collectibles like these. 🏴☠️
Free alpha: This 1997 Weekly Jump COWA! calendar card predates Luffy’s 1999 Hyper Battle C01 rookie by nearly TWO YEARS. One of the earliest card collectibles to feature Straw Hat Luffy. eBay $100+ skip the markup, hit Mercari Japan or Yahoo! Flea Market for $15–$25/ea…for now.
The Hyper Battle Bible, MINT. Shueisha’s Feb 2002 catalog documented 800+ cards across 16 releases: 192 pages of card art, promos, complete stats & rules. This copy retains GA-01 & GA-02 exclusive promos, previewing the next One Piece CCG that debuted that same month. 🏴☠️
☠️ October 2005: The Quest Begins. One Piece’s first English tournaments awarded stamped Jolly Roger Winner, judge, and participant cards…21 years later, I’ve archived the launch, including PR001, the first English One Piece card. HERE: vintageonepiece.com
2000 Marusho Super Bromide (oversized). Sold in 8-card blind packs, 12 per box, Volumes featured 44~ designs, including 12 silver-etched specials and 8 prism foils. These Luffy No. 6 and Ace No. 9 are from the silver subset. Insanely delicate and easily scratched. 🏴☠️
2000 One Piece: Mezase Kaizoku Ou! - Bandai WonderSwan. The FIRST One Piece video game included 5 exclusive, stamped Carddass Hyper Battle cards (C-W1–C-W5): Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji. Fun fact: Find all 7 hidden Panda Islands to unlock Pandaman as a playable character! 🐼
Another wild night on eBay for vintage One Piece, the first English Luffy card, PR001 in a PSA 8 sold for $18,888.00 BOA. My grade can’t come back fast enough. No PSA 10’s exist. 🏴☠️🫡
Holy shit…5 hours left on a PSA 1 Skyridge Holo Charizard. ebay.io/m/nNb7RV
Flipping through the vintage grading pile…fun fact: If you submitted cards to PSA today at Standard service, you wouldn’t see them again until March 2027. 😭
2005 PR-001 Luffy “Pirate’s Ambition.” Glued inside Shonen Jump, it’s the first English One Piece card. Fewer than 10 copies have graded a 9 across BGS/PSA/CGC/SGC. None have graded higher. Bandai can keep making great Luffys. It can never recreate the one that started it all. 🏴☠️
1997 Carddass Charizard 006 PRISM…yesterday back-to-back PSA 9 sales. $3.5k and then (listed $6k) $4.7k accepted. 📈
2003 Sanji JO-C16!!! 💥🐼 Just when we thought we’d uncovered every hidden Pandaman sighting in vintage One Piece, another one comes out of hiding! We’re now at 12 confirmed sightings and counting! 👉🏼 findpandaman.vercel.app
With all these vintage alt-Pokémon cards pumping, when does the 1999 Burger King “23k Gold” Charizard get its due? PSA literally had to design a custom slab for it, and after the holder scratched the other character cards, they stopped grading the rest. PSA 10 pop: 0. 👑
Still gold on Facebook Marketplace. Picked up a clean 1980 Topps Empire Strikes Back binder for $40, and the best part are these vivid yellow/green illustrated character cards. Boba, Bossk, Dengar, IG-88. Most can still be found on eBay for ~$10 or less. @JayBobSons 👀
Cool seeing more Carddass and Topps hitting timelines. Some of the earliest Pokémon cards spent years niche and ignored. Sure, there are fake pumps, but the bigger story is legacy collectors embracing the full vintage era across a much wider range of products.
