Last week I got to talk about my game/art project on @joindiveclub Radio!!!
It was my first time filming myself, but I'm inspired to continue the practice w/ a weekly dev diary.
More soon!
Fund art and science you goons
Starting startups has become just like academia.
When YC puts out list of companies they want to see built, it just further encourages the cycle of crap companies being made.
Resources aren’t going to the most passionate, but to the people most willing to play the game.
Those that are good at the game are the most cut throat, because their lives aren’t really enjoyable.
They haven’t optimized for passion, they've optimized for a perceived path to personal success, not a change in the world they want to see.
Which is why a lot of these founders u meet lowkey suck as people, cause they aren’t real, they aren’t building anything real.
If you're making something real, you throw them off. If you’re illegible they ignore you
Their search is for people who are legible, steps on the ladder that they can climb to get acquihired by some other fake ai company.

I hate being a cynic. I try to curate my timeline.
Everyday I'm inspired by incredible people making incredible things.
But no matter how hard I try, 80% of my timeline is feed.
Create more than you consume I guess.
AI speed narratives are bubble bait.
The goal is better output. Speed can be part of it; faster feedback loops are gold.
The bottleneck on growth isn't adding features faster. Didn't we all used to say this every day?
Revolut's designers are moving off Figma.
Storonsky spotted one team designing much faster than the others. What they did:
1. Gave an LLM Revolut's design system at the code level
2. Prompted it to build new flows on top of that system
3. Got a live interface they can click through on a laptop or phone, instead of static frames
Result: 3-4x faster. Now he's pushing it to every designer at Revolut.
His job, as he describes it: find what works in one team and spread it across the company.

Tech has arguably the greatest example of brand everrrrrr and we have no clue.
What do you even admire about Apple? Jobs? What about the [iPhone] or the ads?
For me it starts w/ purpose and vision. 99.9% of tech companies exist to make a buck and that's all.

The story of tech and design:
In 1976, Apple figured out that design, taste, and quality make better products.
Ever since, everyone in tech has wanted to be like Apple and “do design,” while remaining completely oblivious to what design, quality and taste actually means
“designing much faster than the others” — this so daft and makes it clear they don’t understand design at all. “Designing fast” (or slow) is just not a thing. If you conflate “producing ui by piecing together stuff” and “design” then the former (which is a form of assembly-line practice) can surely be fast or slow.
What makes the practice of design challenging is not how to put a ui or poster together, it’s what the pieces are, what the message is, what is being communicated, how it all works together.
So many of today’s “design” AI tools focus almost exclusively on the production part, on putting stuff together. I’d love to see an AI design tool that forms a deep understanding of a problem over the course of days or months and works like a creative partner. Call me on my bullshit, thinks about the whole, isn’t concerned really about the final arrangement of elements as much as it would understand the story and the message.
Follow me for pessimistic takes on technology, art, and design, and optimistic takes on technology, art, and design.
Since a lot of people are getting into gamedev, I put together a small guide on how I made the jump in Tether feel great.
It's not new tech nor industry secrets, but I hope you see something interesting that might help your next project - 2D platformer or not
