"People would be upset if public libraries were proposed today" is one of the most insightful quips about the mindset of a large swath of people today.
Because it’s not the role of government to provide for you , and also no one is entitled to anyone’s services for free. Also “free” is never free. Somebody always has to pay an exorbitant amount just so you can have something for a lower cost at their expense.

republicans politicians dropping their acts and finally talking like the ivy league-educated people they are after the blue tsunami is sooooo funny to me lmao
Ron DeSantis explains why the GOP "screaming socialism" doesn't work anymore: "Young people have a very positive view of socialism compared to capitalism. The question is, why is that? Some of it is the education in our universities. But I think a big part of that is, what they're comparing is not free enterprise versus socialism. What they're comparing is how government gets involved in business, and you have crony capitalism. The best kind of indirect supporters of socialism are some of these corporatist republicans who propagate these crony policies. The average person is seeing that and saying, 'Wait a minute, you're trying to bend the government to funnel benefits to this corporation or that industry. What about having a competitive market? ... Young people really aren't seeing that. They're seeing just a handful of companies that have an outsized influence on our economy and on our society"

The same cats who pretend they are starving 20min after they eat? The same cats that will literally have multiple families in the same neighborhood believing they only live with them? Same cats that developed meowing just to manipulate us?
I feel like cats would be so upset if they knew they’re missing out on lying and cigarettes

If you grew up in Philadelphia, you remember the Blizzard of '96. It hit the first weekend of January, and by the time it stopped, the city was buried under 30.7 inches of snow. The biggest snowstorm Philly has ever recorded. You sat by the radio waiting for KYW to read your school's closing number. Then it came. No school. The mayor declared a state of emergency, and for a few days the streets belonged to the plows and to us. Every hill in the neighborhood became a sled run. Real sleds, trash can lids, flattened cardboard boxes, whatever you could grab. Your gloves were soaked in ten minutes. Your mom made hot chocolate anyway. Then came the real work: digging out the car, only for the plow to bury it again an hour later. And once you got that spot clear? Out came the lawn chair. That spot was yours now. Everybody knew the rules. There was so much snow the city ran out of places to put it, so trucks dumped it straight into the Schuylkill and the Delaware. Where were you during the Blizzard of '96? And be honest… did you ever save a spot with a lawn chair? 📷

Even if you do and into a variety of things this city is just big enough to never run into people you hope to see again but also small enough to keep running into people you’d rather not 😭
