ANNOUNCING THE 2026 WOLF PRIZE LAUREATES IN CHEMISTRY
The 2026 Wolf Prize in Chemistry is awarded to Pascal Mayer, Shankar Balasubramanian and David Klenerman for developing impactful, low-cost, next generation DNA sequencing methods for genomic medicine.
Their work helped transform DNA sequencing into a technology capable of operating at extraordinary speed and scale.
Balasubramanian and Klenerman pioneered a massively parallel sequencing approach that contributed to a million-fold improvement in sequencing speed and cost, helping make it possible to sequence a human genome for under $200.
Mayer played a pivotal role in turning those breakthroughs into a practical high-throughput sequencing system, integrating the chemistry, microfluidics, optics and computational components needed to make the technology work at scale.
Today, the sequencing platform that grew from this work forms the technological foundation for more than 90% of global sequencing data, powering major advances in genomics and precision medicine.
Congratulations to the 2026 Wolf Prize Laureates in Chemistry!

Streaming gave us everything to watch and somehow made 100 years of cinema invisible.
I built Oddflick to bring it back: swipe through classic film scenes, tap when one catches you, and watch the whole movie.
Free on iPhone.
On Aug. 28, 1946, OMRF answered the call to people who “were dreaming of a world in which medical advances would alleviate pain and disease.” Since then, we've continued developing new ways to prevent and treat diseases of aging, autoimmune illnesses, cancer and heart disease.
Catch up with the president, see what our scientists are up to, and hear more about how one of our board members races around the world to stay young.

Today in @NatureBiotech we report OptiPrime, a mechanism-based machine learning model for predicting prime editing (PE) efficiencies and suggesting pegRNAs to achieve a user-specified edit. OptiPrime incorporates biochemical knowledge about PE into its mathematical structure, enabling training on ~300,000 PE efficiencies collected using 40 experimental conditions in multiple labs, and outcome predictions of PE variants such as twin prime editing not used in its training. OptiPrime enabled the rapid identification of efficient PE strategies across a variety of applications in vitro and in vivo, and could outperform months or years of manual experimental optimization.
