A necessary rant about Jikook’s enlistment.
Because I don’t really see people discussing it properly anymore. It’s always “they enlisted together, how cute” but a lot of baby army don’t really understand what that means. The “buddy system” comes with a very big consequence and it’s probably the reason why no other idol has chosen it. The reason why Namjoon didn’t choose it despite his struggle. Once you’re in the buddy system you can’t pick where you end up anymore and often your sent to the shittier places. That means it’s basically a game of roulette. And Jimin and JK knew that. And they paid the price. They got sent in an artillery unit in the frontlines. I’m no expert, but I did my research and it’s about as bad as it gets.
My point is that there is no real reason to take this risk just to not be separated from your friend for 18 months. In fact, this experience often manages to ruin friendships, because of what they have to endure.
The reason Jikook did it and the reason they made it home okay was because they love each other.
