I conceived Diana & Callisto as a watercolour sketch entirely from imagination. I then developed it compositionally and coloristically, filling in the details, refining the drawing and making studies from life/photos only when I was stuck. This is why the picture feels cohesive.

Gustav Klimt, Spruce Forest Klimt went into the forest and left everything else behind. No figures. No buildings. No story. Just rows of spruce trees. Light and colour. Spruce Forest comes close to abstraction. And many modern artists would take that idea much further.

Most people don't know how bright raw bronze is. I didn't know until I made my first bronze 20 years ago. Once the castings are welded and cleaned up, they get sandblasted to the raw metal (pic left). It takes a lot of skill to transform that shiny thing into a finely patinated work of art.

During the production of RAN (1985), Akira Kurosawa faced the progressive deterioration of his eyesight. To compensate for these visual limitations, the director adopted a rigorous planning method, creating hundreds of detailed storyboards.

What a great time it used to be where we could have actual miniature sculptures used in videogame covers

You take this very over wrought and kind of nonsensical composition that tries too hard to be grand, and compare it to something like what Franz Von Stuck does here with just three monumental figures. Much more focus atmosphere and emotion, so the moment actually has weight to it
