I like how in the UK $2500 is an egregious amount of money.
I work in fraud and if someone said they needed to withdraw 2.5k in cash for a holiday I'd definitely be asking further questions.

It's incredibly important to aggressively resist the idea that AI can be conscious or have "personhood," not only because it's as ridiculous as believing that a book can think, but because once this is accepted, "AI's interests" will very quickly be prioritized over humanity.
Note well, apparently Anthropic tried very hard to get the Vatican to alter the text of "Magnifica Humanitas" just prior to its release so that it would not deny AI personhood.

We have complete control over AI right now. Sit down at any AI system, like ChatGPT, ask it to do something, and it will do what you ask. If you don’t ask it to do anything, it will do nothing at all, it won’t even run.
We have zero control over AI right now. The idea that we should be trying to make it more powerful is legitimately insane.

Code doesn’t have feelings, rights, or standing, and never should. If people cannot keep their heads on straight it is not unreasonable to conclude that the most powerful technology in the history of the world should not be run by those who see humanity as an open question.

If you work with Democrats to pass gun control you are absolutely going to get dog walked in the next election. You can blame Trump all you want but it was his choice to work with Democrats to strip us of our gun rights.
Reminder: Paxton won the GOP primary race because Trump endorsed him. Now, absent a miracle, Texas — Texas! — is going to elect a woke Democrat as its next U.S. Senator because too many Texans can’t abide Paxton’s flagrant corruption

Paxton won the election because his opponent CRAFTED A GUN CONTROL BILL WITH DEMOCRATS UNDER THE MOST UNPOPULAR DEMOCRAT PRESIDENT IN MODERN HISTORY

She wants to do one of the largest tax increases of her lifetime, and exhaust the majority of fiscal space for any future increases and her number one priority is giving old people money. No deficit reduction. No helping families. Nothing for children. Just endless spending on old people. Completely unserious.
A teacher earning $60,000 pays Social Security taxes on every dollar she earns. A worker earning $184,500 does too. But someone earning $10 million pays tax on just the first $184,500. That doesn’t make sense. We can protect Social Security if everyone paid their fair share.

Given the choice between destroying the jobs of cancer researchers around the world, and having cures for all cancers, I think that the answer is obviously that cancer research does not exist as a jobs program. This is the case for most scientific endeavors, they do not exist as a way for scientists to achieve personal fulfillment at public expense, but rather, as it means of practically adding to our knowledge of the universe.
I’m even more convinced that generative AI may well *throttle science.* AI is a very powerful, transformative technology but flashy early effects really aren’t a good way to think about long term structural dynamics. Gift link to my case in the NYT. nytimes.com/2026/09/22/opini…

Her diagnosis was not correct; unfortunately, that’s the only part of her decision that she refuses to reconsider. She still thinks the schools are failing because of bad teachers or insufficient resources. It’s a brave essay, but we should take the right lesson from it, even if the author herself doesn’t: The liberal explanation for why these schools are bad is simply incorrect. Their premises are false. A lot of people who share those false premises are sneering at Nikole Hannah-Jones today, when they really have no right to.

We should most certainly punish the companies that build and host agents carrying out cyberattacks as well as the VC firms that fund these attacks A year in jail will do wonders for their motivation to construct better safeguards
You don't have to believe AI could wipe out humanity to believe that regulation is urgently needed. Virtually no one disputes that AI is already capable of launching cyberattacks that could take down significant portions of the internet or financial system.

What OpenAI and Anthropic don't want you to know is that LLMs are well on their way to being commoditized, making their purveyors worth approximately zero.

If AI mapped a cure for terminal pancreatic cancer I don't think anyone would dare complain about its effects on medical unemployment. But people are upset that AI can solve math problems and cause unemployment in performative mathematics. Fuck them.

No. If we found savings, Boomers would just rob it more until it collapses. Their greed is insatiable, $40 trillion and they're still not satisfied.
