VisualDiffer 2.2.1 is out. It includes various bug fixes, and finally diffing for "large" files runs on a separate thread without blocking the UI; it only took me 15 years to fix this bug :D :D Does anyone actually use VD, or am I just talking to myself? github.com/visualdiffer/visu…
Work in progress... Preview inside Folder Differ, it's not a diff file but it helps you quickly examine PDFs, images and any other file you can open from Finder with Quick Look.

I'm adding the ability to see the differences within a line to @visualdiffer's file viewer. The code seems correct, but the hardest part remains the same... choosing colors!
What do you think of these for dark and light modes?

VisualDiffer 2.1.20 has been released, I was finally able to reproduce a bug about trusted paths, it only occurred if you had two external disks mounted, you had moved a directory from one to the other and the secured path pointed to the old one
VisualDiffer version 2.1.18 has been released github.com/visualdiffer/visu…, but as always, after a lot of checking, I noticed a small problem!!!! The toolbar has duplicate icons that are now grouped together, damn it!! Just remove them manually, I'm ashamed!

using VisualDiffer and thinking "why can't i select all modified files in a subdirectory at once? someone should implement this"
*checks who develops VisualDiffer*
oh. it's me.
ok done 🤦
finally!!
the most embarrassing bug i've fixed: dialog crashed on macOS 13.x. impossible to reproduce... until i opened it 47 times in a row 👀
turns out: invisible race condition
sometimes you need to be THAT person who just keeps clicking
Talking about a 5Mb reduction is ridiculous in 2026 but this happened by migrating from PNG to SF Symbols, and then hundreds of files were deleted, all this to align the visualdiffer toolbar to modern macOS
I work at a resolution of 2304x1296, which is a lot of horizontal space, but I'm never satisfied. Now I'm squeezing the folder view indentation.
Anyone like the new indentation? I'm not convinced, but it does give me more space.
Don't be shy, tell me what you prefer.
I asked @AnthropicAI if they will accept me in the "Open Source Program", I doubt they will accept me, I only have 300 stars, a very used project but invisible to the mainstream, but who knows, maybe Claude put a hand on his "context" 🤣

I've been dealing with a memory leak for years. I've been using that code every day for years and haven't noticed how much RAM it was eating up. Then a user opens an issue and I have an epiphany! @visualdiffer now releases memory when it compares binary files. V2.1.15 is out

VisualDiffer is close to 300 ⭐ on GitHub.
In a time when every trending repo is AI-related, every single star I get means more than usual.
If you stopped by my repo and left a star — thank you. You chose to do it consciously 🙏

Not a priority but I needed to adjust dark mode colors for my old eyes safety, so I tweaked a bit the VisualDiffer darkmode color scheme
the "opt-in" crash reports contain a not reproduced bug crashing app at start time, after month finally I reproduced and fixed it

sorry but editing is not possible, you can only "copy" lines from one side to the other. My (very quick and dirty) personal approach is to open file in external editor, edit it and return to VD to see the differences
VisualDiffer 1.8.2 is out, navigating folder differences from keyboard now is more easy, you can configure folders to to expand if they contain differences
app store publishes reviewes and replies with 2-3 days of delay, if you what to ask a new feature don't be shame and submit a request at bugs.visualdiffer.com/ or send a DM here or send us an email
VisualDiffer 1.8.0 optimized for Apple Silicon is out apps.apple.com/us/app/visual…
