What started as two young actors waiting for class became a friendship built on respect, trust and years of shared memories. Through every chapter, we’ve stood by each other and celebrated the good times. That bond has remained something I’ll always be grateful for, my friend.

In a letter to their daughter earlier this year, @ElinaSvitolina honored her husband, @Gael_Monfils: “That’s how we met: in 2017, in New York, on a practice court in Central Park, introduced by a mutual friend. But I was very shy, so it’s just a hello. Then a year later, I’m 24 now, I win the WTA Finals in Singapore. And after winning, I go to Paris to celebrate, and I post about it on Instagram. (I’ll explain Instagram to you another time.) Your dad sees my post, and messages me about how he’s also in Paris, and should we meet up while we’re each out with our friends. So we meet up — then he barely talks to me the entire night!!! To be fair, he was sober. While I was … celebrating. Hahaha. But at the end of the night, I’m leaving the bar, and he walks me to my taxi. And asks would I would like to get coffee with him the next day. I’m like, ‘Sure!’
It’s hard to know if our coffee was officially a date — men can be vague with these things — but I think how it was ‘unofficial’ is part of what’s nice about it. We had so much in common, as two people living an insane life in tennis, and it felt good to be able to talk in an honest way about that life. I remember I even talked about wanting kids…….. not exactly a first-date topic!!! I was like, ‘I’ll probably play until I’m 28 or 29, then take a break and have a baby, then I’ll come back and play again.’ I think you learn a lot about someone from what type of listener they are, and your dad was such a kind listener in that moment. I felt like I could tell him anything. What was meant to be a quick coffee ended up being an entire day … just us walking around Paris (OK, maybe it was a date) and getting to know each other.
Then, before we said goodbye, that’s when I finally met Gaël The Magician.
Only speaking as your mom…….. I would not say it’s always the best sign if a guy brings a deck of cards to your date. So keep that in mind for the future. But your dad was very charming, and he gave me this big smile while he took out his deck of cards and was like, ‘Alright, Elina. Now I’ll show you a magic trick. What do I get if I guess your card?!?’ I’m like, ‘Ehhh … I don’t know … a hug.’ Then I feel embarrassed with my answer, so I change it to ‘a kiss on the cheek.’ Of course, once I say this, Gaël does an amazing trick and he guesses it right. So I give him a SMALL kiss on his cheek — and then the date is over. I think a few weeks later, we are basically living together.
Three years later, we are married.
And now it’s almost five years after that … it’s crazy to believe. We’ve been through so much as a couple. (And since you were born, as a trio!!!) And I feel so lucky to be on this adventure with your dad. It has not been easy all the time, actually sometimes it’s been quite hard — but I think that’s what marriage and partnership is about. It’s a great lesson I’ve learned, and a great lesson for you as well….. how being someone’s partner, it can be fun but also it’s hard work. So you want to make sure you choose a partner who is comfortable with both. And for me, that’s Gaël.” playerstribu.ne/Svitolina

I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.

On this day, 13 August in 1995, British mountaineer Alison Hargreaves 🇬🇧 reached the summit of K2 (8611 m) in Pakistan. She was only 33 and had already become one of the greatest climbers of her generation. Three months earlier, she had become the first woman to climb Everest alone, without supplementary oxygen or Sherpa support. In 1993, she had also become the first person to solo the six great north faces of the Alps in a single summer.
Hargreaves and five other climbers reached the summit of K2 between approximately 6:30 and 7:00 PKT. As they began descending, a violent storm struck the upper mountain. Winds reportedly exceeded 160 kilometres per hour. All six summit climbers were lost, while another climber who had turned back later died from exposure. Hargreaves is believed to have been blown from the ridge. Some of her equipment and what was believed to be her body were later seen, but she was never recovered.
Her death was followed by harsh criticism, not simply because she had accepted the risks of K2, but because she was a mother. Male climbers who died in the mountains were often remembered as heroes, while Hargreaves was questioned for leaving behind her two young children, Tom and Kate. The reaction exposed the double standard faced by women in extreme mountaineering.
Her six-year-old son, Tom Ballard, later became an outstanding alpinist himself. During the winter of 2014–15, he became the first climber to solo all six major north faces of the Alps in one winter. In February 2019, Tom and Italian climber Daniele Nardi disappeared while attempting the unclimbed Mummery Spur on Nanga Parbat. Their bodies were identified on the face the following month.
Mother and son. Twenty-four years apart. Two souls who lived and died in the thin air. Alison on K2, Tom on Nanga Parbat. The mountains united them in life, and claimed them in death. But they are not stories of loss alone. They are stories of love, obsession, and a deep, rare kind of freedom the kind found only above the clouds, where the world falls away and the sky becomes your final horizon.

Murad Sadpara stood among the truest heroes of the Karakoram an exceptional high altitude mountaineer whose fortitude and resilience transcended the very limits of human endurance.
He etched his name into mountaineering history by retrieving the body of climber Hassan Shigri from an altitude of approximately 8,200 meters on K2 marking the first successful recovery from the mountain’s infamous “Death Zone.” He also brought down the body of an Afghan climber from Camp III and later assisted in recovering Hassan Shigri’s remains from the perilous Bottleneck, placing his own life in grave jeopardy to grant others the dignity of a final farewell.
Despite such extraordinary accomplishments, the recognition he deserved remained insufficient. Murad summited Nanga Parbat twice within the span of a single week, endured fifteen minutes atop K2’s summit without a shirt, and time and again proved himself to be among Pakistan’s most formidable and fearless mountaineers.
Tragically, scarcely a week after that historic recovery on K2, Murad himself perished on Broad Peak engaged in the very pursuit he loved most. Nearly two years have elapsed, yet his legacy continues to resonate profoundly, inspiring climbers across the globe.
This year, Broad Peak has once again underscored the unforgiving reality of the high mountains, claiming ten precious lives. The global mountaineering community mourns each soul lost upon these mangnificent summits.
May Allah grant Murad Sadpara and all those who lost their lives on Broad Peak the highest rank in Jannah. Ameen.
Their courage shall never fade into oblivion their legacy shall endure for eternity.

I really hope #Toxic works big for #Yash. Bro's gotta have balls of steel to wait for this long after a massive blockbuster like KGF, chose a woman filmmaker for his next, also co-produce it. The difference between the man who dreams and the man who wins is simply the courage to do what everyone else is afraid to do.
A SHIP IN HARBOUR IS SAFE, BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT SHIPS ARE BUILT FOR.
