Yesterday at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, I shared a simple message: Africa cannot transform agriculture with business as usual.
China shows what is possible through bold policy, investment, and STI. The soybean platform is one of several game-changing national systems.
WACCI proves Ghana and Africa can do the same. I proposed a Ghana Academy of Agricultural Sciences and announced the June 16 launch of the GNRF by H.E. the President of Ghana.
Prof Daniel Dzidzienyo shared work on cassava for industry and markets.
We move forward through collaboration.

Tonight, we are honored to celebrate the incredible achievements of Dr. Mercy Diebiru-Ojo, the 2025 Africa Food Prize laureate from Nigeria. Her leadership in revolutionizing cassava and yam seed systems is transforming the lives of farmers across West Africa. By adapting advanced technology to produce millions of clean, high-yield seedlings, she has more than doubled crop yields and created new enterprises, proving how science and entrepreneurship can secure livelihoods and strengthen Africa’s food systems.
We are especially proud to have been a part of her journey - Dr. Mercy was supported by AGRA during her PhD studies at the West African Centre of Crop Improvement, University of Ghana. Today, she stands as a brilliant young scientist and a shining example of how investing in talent can unlock Africa’s agricultural transformation.
