I really love the respectful behaviour across political divides that we see in Canadian elections. By no means a perfect political tradition, but it hit me watching the BC election tonight. Super constructive and hopeful. #BCElection2026

If you’re interested in the political side of this work, I have an article coming out soon w JEH @CambridgeUP : ‘John Owen and the Plotters’ In the article I look at Owen’s connections to conspiratorial networks during the Exclusion Crisis & argue that he was more involved and that his willingness to contemplate active resistance developed earlier than has generally been recognized. The article isn’t an exhaustive account of the evidence for Owen’s involvement in plotting, particularly in the period leading to the Rye House Plot. Rather, I’ve tried to frame it as the prehistory to that larger story. It represents part of that trajectory through 1679–81. The fuller case for Owen’s proximity to & involvement in the conspiratorial politics culminating in Rye House & beyond is for later. It's open access, so I’ll post it here when it’s out.

Probably the most important distinction in all of life is that "the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." You get that, the rest is gravy.

Professor Daniel Schwartz of Hebrew University has just published in the Journal of Jewish Studies a 24-page review article on my book, *Josephus and Jesus*. liverpooluniversitypress.co.… Professor Schwartz is the first academic reviewer, to my knowledge, to state his disagreement with my conclusions about the authenticity of Josephus's testimony about Jesus (the Testimonium Flavianum), but he is still complimentary, he writes: “To conclude: although Schmidt's erudition and arguments are impressive, I still tend to believe that the TF proclaims Christian beliefs.” He also adds that I provide “a detailed and well-informed study of some details of Judaean prosopography of the first century, one that is valuable for its own sake.” I am honored that such eminent scholars have taken so much time in responding to my book. Daniel Schwartz, Steve Mason, and James Carlton Paget have combined to write over 50 pages in their academic reviews. What is more is the fact that all three have approached the task with admirable clarity and charity, having understood and fairly portrayed my arguments. Mason stated that my arguments for authenticity were “strong” and Paget wrote that my argument is the “best case” hitherto made for authenticity. I am gathering and going through all the reviews thus far written and am finding them very stimulating. I hope to incorporate them into some kind of second edition or follow-up article in the future.

Honestly I’ve hit my breaking point. On call this week and just crushed. It’s insanity to do a specialist consult on a complex patient in 20 minutes. If I take longer then urgent care is delayed and the pile gets bigger. Now Sechelt hospital has no physician capacity and patients are being sent over to me in the night. For the first time in 22 years of medical practice I said no. It felt terrible because the patient gets caught in the middle. It’s unsafe. It’s hurting me. It’s hurting my family. It’s hurting patients. Leadership at the highest level in the VCH health authority need to lead. I have dedicated 22 years to Lions gate hospital. I’m seriously contemplating resigning. Whoever forms the next government needs to make people in highly paid positions in administration accountable. Done with mediocrity. Politicians can’t fix the system but they can demand accountability from those they hire in to these roles.

Historian @ProfStonebraker thought she'd achieved the life of a happy and intellectually fulfilled atheist at the start of her academic career, until she encountered the ideas of New Atheists @PeterSinger and @RichardDawkins. This led her to question her assumptions and, ultimately, convert to Christian faith! More stories like this can be read in the book 'Coming To Faith Through Dawkins' 👉 kregel.com/apologetics-and-e…

In 2023, the famously reclusive philosopher Byung-Chul Han agreed to give 3 lectures on his thought. As someone who has read him for years and who has taught philosophy, I wanted to share a few reflections on this book, The Tonality of Thought. youtube.com/watch?v=SCa8GwlZ…

Error, concerning the three heads of our seal, has caused much straying from the truth, for either they despise the Father, or do not accept the Son—they speak against the economy of His incarnation—or they do not accept the Holy Spirit, that is, they despise prophecy. - Irenaeus

Christianity Today has seen about half its staff quit or laid off in the last 14 mos. Former employees told me that new business leaders have intervened in editorial decisions & are effectively abandoning the outlet's commitment to independent journalism. nytimes.com/2026/10/21/us/ch…

Remote work lets me hug my kids all throughout the day as they charge past my office en route to wherever they're going. Nothing miserable about that.
My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

Is the prayer of Jabez a mantra for personal success or a covenantal plea for God’s kingdom come? Unpack why this obscure figure prayed for “enlarged borders,” and what it means for Christians today: bit.ly/3VZFDIX @wagraham
