This Missile Doesn’t Hit the Tank. It Flies Over It What happens when tank armor becomes too difficult to attack head-on? Anti-tank missiles evolved from larger warheads to tandem charges designed to deal with explosive reactive armor.
The MT-12 Rapira is a Soviet 100mm smoothbore anti-tank gun designed primarily for direct fire. Its long recoil movement makes the gun appear to kick violently when fired, while its optical sighting system and specialized ammunition allowed it to engage armored targets at ranges of around 2 kilometers depending on the ammunition.

Pershing vs. Panther. Cologne.
On March 6, 1945, a remarkable tank battle took place in Cologne, Germany, between an American M26 Pershing tank and a German Panther tank.
🇺🇸 The M26 Pershing, with its 90 mm gun, offered a more balanced combination of firepower and protection against the Panther’s formidable armor.
🇩🇪 The Panther, with its long-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 42 gun and sloped frontal armor, was one of the most dangerous German tanks of its time.
📍 The clash occurred amid the heavy destruction of Cologne during the final days of the war. The footage became one of the famous urban combat scenes of World War II, showing the Pershing disabling the Panther.
⏳ By the spring of 1945, the German army was on the defensive, and Allied forces were advancing deeper into Germany.
