Here’s what it’s like here when the Yankees win. Loudest rendition of “New York, New York” I’ve heard in a long time – at Bronx, NY

I'm a wee bit surprised Javier "El Mago" Baez "stealing" first base didn't make the list but it's a fantastic list :D

An Angels employee emailed me in ‘26, offering ticket packages b/c I previously bought tickets for LAD@LAA in ‘25. I replied, refusing to buy any more LAA tickets as long as Moreno was owner. Today, I received this follow-up email. It’s as if they were liberated from a dictator.

If you can get to Billings, MT tonight, you could bear witness to baseball history. The Red Pocket Mobiles have lost 38 consecutive games and would set a new record for the longest losing streak in professional baseball history if they fall to the Billings Mustangs.

After Chris wrote this, I shared a story: In 2018 I was an inexperienced reporter--the only woman--covering Dbacks spring training. In the clubhouse Jazz saw I felt out of place & made a point to approach me to ask about my article & chat. His bad rap in MIA was puzzling to me
If you want to know more about Jazz Chisholm Jr. and some of the comments he's dealt with in the baseball world, I wrote a profile on him last year. It gets into race, being personable in a sport that largely doesn't celebrate that and more. Free ⬇️ nytimes.com/athletic/6230899…

Yes. DYK: There were minor leagues prior to the creation of the farm system? And independent teams competing against affiliated teams into the '90s? If you can coach it doesn't matter whether you got paid by the Lincoln Saltdogs or the Los Angeles Dodgers when you played.
Serious question: Can you call yourself a “professional baseball player” if you only played independent ball? Using “I played pro ball” as a marketing tool can be very misleading. Thoughts

The Expos were 74-40 when a strike shut down the 1994 season. Here’s Montreal Sports Anchor Ron Reusch predicting everything that would happen next like he’s NOSTRADAMUS.

“It sounds like a room deodorizer!” The man who wrote & directed “Field of Dreams” HATED the title and was desperate to change it. Good thing for us, he lost the fight. A big part of why the movie endures is the title. Here’s how it came to be. mlb.com/news/how-field-of-dr…

Nice job by @alldaykelt on the @wpbl_official broadcast. He gets excited! Reminds me of the best of Tom Hamilton and John Sterling rolled into one.

so when I interviewed Kevin Smith about MALLRATS this topic kinda came up but then it went in a direction I did NOT expect—
But who actually wrote "Good Will Hunting"? Sure, Damon and Affleck wrote some part of it, some draft. But the idea that these two guys wrote an Oscar-winning screenplay—a true original—on their first try, at age 20 or whatever, then went on to write....nothing of consequence beggars belief.

And yes we already tried talking to the @Yankees and were told with no smart phone he’s shit out of luck. There is no accommodation for people without smart phones. Flip phone users are dead to MLB, apparently @MLBFanSupport @MLB_PR

theoretically, eye black is a utility product; realistically, it's an almost primitive battle cry from pro sports down to youth leagues. i wrote about the superstition, ritual, and big business of eye black at @FOS: frontofficesports.com/how-ey…

Fun! Because let's consider the opposite side of the coin here... The Red Sox have won nine straight series for the first time for the first time in 114 years, per Elias/Nightengale. Naturally, these two teams will play each other this weekend, at Fenway. Absolutely incredible.
The A’s have now lost 12 straight series for the first time in 110 years (not a typo)

I have an elderly friend who loves the @Yankees and really wants to go to Old Timers Day. But he doesn’t have a smartphone. I have season tickets and want to give him one. The Yankees tell me they have NO accommodations for people without smartphones. So he can’t go. 😡

They’re like “can’t you find someone to go with him?” So now I’m looking for a rando with a smartphone who won’t scalp my tickets and will instead meet my friend to get him inside. Not ideal.
