When the last several Harry Potter books were released, we had midnight book launches attended by millions. Children, in some cases very young, finished these 700 & 800 page books in a single day. And now people are telling me I made it up, that this couldn’t ever have happened.

When I read older books, I'm always struck by how unoptimized they are. Books wandered in their prose, had meandering backstories for side characters, and had strange and illogical plot points. Now, it's like every word in a book has to be razor-focused, hurtling toward the conclusion. There's no room for idle dreaming.

THIS! Like, even the JP VAs with experience in stage acting are much better and sound more natural than those without. Many of the newer gens sound the same and don't hit as hard. Same with dubs too. FF12 and 16's EN dubs are peak examples. 14's too!
This is what I mean with NA voice actors versus English theatre actors. Listen to the new Zelda & then here’s a random cutscene from Final Fantasy XVI where they sound like unique believable people

Most modern North American voice acting unironically sounds like this clip here. And yes it’s infecting everything. And yes it’s the same VA’s in every project now cause it’s a club
And it just sounds cringe as hell. Bring back theatre actors who know how to do VA not whatever they’re doing now
