Lessons I Wish Someone Had Told Me Tomorrow I'm conversing with students in a university setting. The below lessons are what I'll be sharing with them. Anything you'd add? 1. All the old cliches are true. 2. Figure out which game you’re playing. a. If you’re driven to achieve, make sure you actually want the prize. b. Challenge the traditional metrics of success (prestige) and make your own. 3. Life (and career) are a series of experiments. The linear path is a myth. 4. You will suffer. So make sure you’re suffering for something that matters to you. 5. Get married after age 24, but before age 30. Have kids. Lots of them. 6. Make a small number of high-conviction bets to build wealth. a. Except for birth, you achieve wealth through Time x Risk x Being Correct b. Build conviction by writing a thesis based on your unique perspective. 7. Find a wave and ride it. 8. Ultimately, the value you create for others is what matters in most scenarios. a. You don’t need permission. Credentials don’t matter. b. Your background/limitations/hardships are not an excuse. 9. Optimism, obsession, and raw horsepower are how things get started. 10. Cohesive teams, the right combination of calmness and urgency, and an unreasonable commitment are how things get finished. 11. It’s easier to do hard things that really matter. 12. Moving quickly is a competitive advantage. So is focus. 13. Being “real” is magnetic to the right people. And repels the wrong ones. 14. Think long term. 15. Relationships are all that matter in the end.

Helped 18 people at the shop today! Two groups from Florida (in town for the football game), one from California, and one from England! The rest tried and true locals. Then we hung out after hours by the fire pit with @StrongpointRich who popped in. A good day.

boots are the best deal around. data don't lie
the bull case: Look, I am a known optimist. So it wont surprise everyone to hear I think things are going to be awesome. Here is my perspective: if you are still in business today, you survived at least 6 great crises in the past 6 years. you survived covid, you survived 2 painful presidential elections; you survived a WORSE gas crisis because of the ukraine conflict; you survived inflation; you survived interest rates rising faster than they ever have, you survived a banking crisis (SVB) if you are in business today, you are resilient are things great today? depends where you look. housing hasnt imploded. unemployment is steady. the largest, most important companies in human history are still growing and shipping new products there is weakness for sure- gas prices are the obvious one. They are the front line on a vibes-secion. the reason gas prices matter so much is because it is a commodity with no substitute good. if banana prices go up, you might eat more oranges. But you have to drive to work every day. if gas is $3 or $8 a gallon, doesnt matter, you have to drive. and I wish gas prices were lower. it is the most direct way to put more spending power back into the average amercians hands. but look at the chart- inflation-adjusted, it is a dollar cheaper than the ukraine war peak, and $2 cheaper than in 2008 the economy is more diversified, directly because of the ukraine war, so even with the Iran war dragging on, the impact has been less I'll tell you, I see the strength in my sales data. this is NOTHING like 2022. 2022 had runaway inflation. a real energy shock. no great new products or investments happening. in contrast- people are spending. people are employed. stock market is at all time highs (I think this plays a factor) the reality- it is an election year. both sides are in full-on doomer mode, trying to push a narrative. from my seat, as the ceo of a mid-size discretionary goods company: It is the greatest time to be building all decade.

Replaced my email agency with @bot. Sorry, not sorry. Grok Bot writes in our brand voice, pulls product photos from Dropbox, builds hero artwork in Figma, and drops a finished editable campaign into Klaviyo as a draft. I review for five minutes and hit send 🤯

it wrote my automatic @ChisosBoots emails, too. I hadn't even see this review from Chris before (I verified in Judgeme, it's real). The subject line alone got my click. Well done, @bot

The cool thing is, a lot of the actions taking place are triggered by real events in @Shopify or other sources. A transfer is initiated between the warehouse and our retail store, and a truck leaves WHS bound for HQ in the sim.

All you newbies to Austin should buy this treehouse condo downtown on the trail. Saltwater pool, coffee shops, and JuiceLand. Walk to everything. Tell your bot to talk to my bot. Off market, Texas style.
