Yes @thesmokingdutch I do think the secondary strike campaign will increase non-combat casualties on the 🇷🇺 side as winter gets deep, or at a minimum reduce combat effectiveness as foo, fuel, water, bullets, bandages and everything gets limited.

Weds 28 October is Day 1708 of Russia's all out war on Ukraine. The heroic defence continues to defy Putin, and no matter how many obscenities and war crimes he commits, he will never break Ukraine's spirit. Speaking of unbroken things, here's another daily 🧵

🇷🇺 2026 offensive in two figures. The excellent assessment of progress on the ground (which I know is good cuz its being attacked by vatniks with little evidence), and this gem from ISW.
3 years ago, Russia 🇷🇺 launched the Avdiivka offensive that slowly turned into the 3rd Donbas 🇺🇦 battle of the full-scale war 3 years later, the Russian offensive is still ongoing, at a much slower pace than before. 2026 was a very difficult year, and Russia failed to keep up the advance pace it had in 2024 and 2025, even suffering from 2 counterattacks in Komar and Lyman. If the Russian offensive on the Donbas was initially centered on the southern and western direction, it moved north, with the main battle ongoing near Dobropilla. You can easily follow the chain of towns from Kurakhove, Pokrovsk and all the way to Barvinkove, behind the Donbas fortress that Russia is attacking. At the same time, Russian advance on the Donetsk-Zaporizhzhia highway was stopped, while the one further south was slowed down. 🟥Russian control before 2024 🔴Territory taken in 2024 🟠Territory taken in 2025 🟡Territory taken in 2026 Big ⬜️ line : Donbas administrative border Small ◽️line : main roads What the map tells us : -> Setbacks in 2024 and 2025 were due to multiple factors, including bad unit coordination, absence of fortifications, and a high number of Russian human resources. Since then, most of the issues have been resolved. -> The "attritional war" narrative that should witness a slow increase of Russian gains until Ukrainian collapse didn't happen. On the contrary, Russia is advancing slower and slower, and Russian losses are increasing. Every time someone is saying Russia is definitely winning the war, show them this map and ask why the "2nd most powerful army in the world" is struggling that much in Donbas while losing more and more men.

This is a bit piss weak by @GiorgiaMeloni , hedging in case the Rs win the mid terms in the 🇺🇸 and she gets some backlash from Trump. It’s also 10 months since the last 🇮🇹 aid line SAMP/T. Talk is cheap prime minister
According to media reports, Italian Prime Minister Meloni has temporarily halted the delivery of a 13th military aid package to Ukraine, pending the results of the U.S. midterm congressional elections. The Italian government emphasizes that this does not signify a complete cessation of aid. Ukraine Now

If 🇺🇦 is so corrupt, why can the un-appointed bagmen of the Mango Mussolini ever seem to be able to bribe them?
Content of Tense Conversation Between Budanov and Trump's Team Revealed Negotiations between the Ukrainian delegation and Donald Trump's special envoys in Miami, as reported by Le Monde, escalated into a conflict. According to the publication, during a three-hour meeting at the Shell Bay golf club, Steve Witkoff "with irritation" demanded that Kyrylo Budanov, head of Zelenskyy's office, cease strikes on Russian oil refineries. Budanov, per Le Monde's information, "barely contained his anger" and felt that he was being "treated like a child, trying to teach him how to make money." The Americans presented an ambitious plan for postwar "regional prosperity," which envisioned resuming the transit of Russian oil and gas to Europe through Ukraine, with dividends paid to Kyiv. Budanov was outraged that such a deal would tie Ukraine to Moscow, after which the negotiations broke off. When the meeting resumed, the Americans proposed accepting a deal for supplies of Russian diesel to the United States. The publication's sources noted that they had never seen Ukrainians "so upset and alarmed." Zelenskyy's entourage described the situation as "hopeless," since Trump's envoys "think only about business." 📸: Press service of the President of Ukraine

𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗙 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡 𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗔 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗛𝗞𝗬 𝗖𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗨𝗞𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗘 The localized ceasefire in Russian-occupied Oleshky began at 03:00 Kyiv time (04:00 Moscow, 01:00 UTC) today, 27 October, ahead of a humanitarian operation to deliver aid and evacuate the roughly 1,700 civilians still trapped there. If you end up watching or reporting on the Newsmax or Kremlin propaganda about this, here is what you need to know in advance. Expect them to portray Oleshky as a city under Ukrainian siege that Russia could not enter to provide assistance. Russia has occupied the city since the opening days of the full-scale invasion in 2022 and has troops in the city center. Yet, for some reason, Ukraine, on the other side of the river, was the one able to send humanitarian aid there. Ukrainian forces have been flying food across the Dnipro by drone since March. In September, they delivered nearly four tonnes to approximately 100 locations across Oleshky. According to Kherson regional authorities, Russian forces shot down food-carrying drones, confiscated or resold the supplies, and detained and beat residents who collected the packages. The head of Oleshky's Ukrainian military administration separately reported Russian troops taking the food from civilians and treating anything not made in Russia as evidence of collaboration with the Ukrainian military. Yet somehow Russia, with the second most powerful military in the world, couldn't mount a mirror relief campaign. If they spread that lie, call it out. Expect interviews with intimidated and coached residents, like those we saw in Kursk, used to manufacture allegations of Ukrainian atrocities. In late September, Ukrainian intelligence warned that Russia was preparing to stage dozens of videos in which Oleshky residents would be forced to say they were happy, well-fed and grateful to Russian forces. Russian forces occupied Oleshky, stole from and brutalized its people, and fired on Kherson from inside the city while refusing to let those people leave. Under international humanitarian law, an occupier operating from a populated area must move civilians away from its positions. Russia kept them in place. Holding civilians around your own firing positions when the law requires you to remove them is using them as human shields. Portraying those same occupiers as rescuers would be a grotesque inversion of what happened there. The propaganda coverage will not explain Russia's responsibility for the suffering. Reporting from the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group describes Russian forces obstructing evacuation and leaving people trapped without adequate food, water or medical care. The last known delivery of food to Oleshky by road took place on 26 May, according to UN monitors. By mid-September, Ukraine had verified 358 residents in urgent need of evacuation and had the operation nearly in place. Russia blocked it. This humanitarian catastrophe was manufactured and sustained under Russian occupation. Russia controlled the city while its people were left to starve. The UN has explicitly reminded Russia that an occupying power has a duty to ensure food and medical supplies and facilitate humanitarian relief. Supplying the people under its control was Russia's obligation from the first day of the occupation. Russia does not deserve humanitarian credit for finally allowing aid to reach people it was obligated to protect. Meanwhile, the White House, now claiming credit for this operation, waived the Graham Act sanctions on Russia on 16 October, two days before they took effect. In the same weeks, Ukraine went days without U.S. early warning of Russian ballistic missile launches, had its Starshield terminals throttled, and ran out of Patriot interceptors while deliveries already paid for by European allies were held up. Ukraine's defenses were being weakened while pressure on the country killing Ukrainian civilians was being relieved. By the White House's own account, the first lady learned about Oleshky in late September. Ukraine had been negotiating the evacuation since May, and UN monitors called for a local ceasefire in June. But here we are, with Ukraine erased from the story and the White House presenting the Kremlin, which actively blocked evacuation and aid to the town for months, as an equal partner in its rescue. Finally, any reporting on the event requires fair and balanced coverage of how Russia treats cities it places under siege and later occupies, and who is providing humanitarian aid during this time. Ukraine. How many times did Ukraine put out warnings and unheeded pleas for ceasefires due to Russian-caused humanitarian crises in towns and cities currently or previously controlled by Ukraine, from Bakhmut and Kharkiv to Kupyansk and Chasiv Yar? Russian forces have repeatedly attacked or obstructed marked humanitarian aid and evacuation efforts in frontline and besieged areas. In March 2026, the Proliska humanitarian mission in Donetsk region recorded the 100th attack on its teams since 2022, when an FPV drone struck a marked evacuation minibus beside the emblem on its roof, killing two elderly women, aged 83 and 63, and injuring two other evacuees. The UN Humanitarian Coordinator condemned the attack on a humanitarian evacuation. In Kherson region in October 2025, Russian drones and artillery struck a clearly marked UN convoy delivering aid to Bilozerka. Human Rights Watch concluded the attack was deliberate; Russian operators posted their own drone footage of it. During the 2022 siege of Mariupol, multiple agreed humanitarian corridors collapsed amid shelling. Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces fired on or near designated routes despite announced pauses, preventing buses and aid trucks from reaching civilians and forcing repeated delays. Human Rights Watch documented systematic impediments to aid access and organized evacuations alongside attacks on civilian infrastructure. These incidents form part of a documented pattern of strikes on marked evacuation and aid vehicles, double-tap attacks on responders, and obstruction of corridors in contested towns. International humanitarian law protects humanitarian personnel, vehicles and relief operations; deliberate attacks on them are prohibited. Coverage of any localized pause, such as the current Oleshky arrangement, should note this record alongside the occupier's obligations and the continuation of strikes elsewhere. So what is the real story? Russia is offering temporary relief in a city it occupies for a humanitarian crisis it manufactured while continuing to attack Ukrainians elsewhere. On the evening of 26 October, Russian ballistic missiles struck a university campus, its dormitories and surrounding residential areas in Kyiv, killing one person and injuring at least 12, many of them students. Two emergency medical workers who responded were among the injured, and Russia struck the city again while rescue work was still underway. Ballistic missile explosions shook Kyiv minutes after the Oleshky ceasefire began. And it takes a special kind of cynical evil from the Kremlin and the White House to turn these innocent Ukrainian lives into a PR stunt while Russia, the invader and belligerent, receives direct relief from Washington. #OSINT #Oleshky #UkraineRussianWar

Mendel's narrative that Ukraine has "rejected" easy peace deals or bears responsibility for the war’s continuation and destruction is disinformation. Here's why: 1. The Istanbul Talks (April 2022) Claim: Ukraine was offered a favorable deal in Istanbul to keep its territory (minus Crimea/Donbas) in exchange for neutrality and army reduction, but Zelenskyy unilaterally declined. Rebuttal: Demilitarization as a Trap: Russia’s Istanbul demand for a drastically reduced Ukrainian military (capping forces at levels that would leave Ukraine defenseless) was designed to make future invasion effortless. Accepting demilitarization without ironclad security guarantees was an invitation to total conquest down the road. The Guarantee Catch: Russia demanded a veto over any future collective security response if Ukraine were attacked again. Under Moscow's terms, if Russia invaded a second time, Russia itself would have to agree before any external power could legally intervene to assist Ukraine. Bucha and Russian War Crimes: The Istanbul talks collapsed primarily due to the discovery of mass atrocities in Bucha, Irpin, and Izium as Russian troops retreated from Kyiv. Russian war crimes demonstrated that "agreements" with Moscow meant surrendering Ukrainian citizens to occupation, torture, and mass graves. No Real Russian Commitment: Russia never offered a binding, full withdrawal from Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, or Kharkiv during those early talks; Moscow was attempting to consolidate military control while stalling for time after its initial push on Kyiv failed. 2. Late 2022 & The Kherson Liberation Claim: After Russian forces withdrew from Kherson city, Ukraine refused a potential ceasefire brokered or suggested by the US to continue the war. Rebuttal: Operational Momentum: In late 2022, Ukraine had just scored major strategic victories in Kharkiv and Kherson. Accepting a premature ceasefire would have allowed a severely weakened, retreating Russian military time to entrench, dig extensive defensive lines (which they later did with the Surovikin Line), rearm, and forcibly draft hundreds of thousands of mobilized troops. Freezing the Conflict Benefits the Aggressor: A ceasefire without Russian withdrawal simply converts temporary frontline positions into de facto borders. Ukraine’s experience from 2014 to 2022 (Minsk I & II) proved that a frozen conflict only gives Russia time to prepare its next offense. US Policy Alignment: The claim that Zelenskyy single-handedly "persuaded" the US to force Ukraine to fight ignores the fundamental principle repeatedly articulated by international law and Western coalition strategy: "Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine." 3. Early 2023 "Back-Channel Deal" Claim: A deal was on the table to return to pre-February 2022 borders in exchange for neutrality and recognizing Crimea as Russian, but Ukrainian leadership turned it down. Rebuttal: Unsubstantiated Fantasy: There is zero official evidence that Vladimir Putin ever agreed to abandon Russia's illegally annexed "four new regions" (Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk), which Moscow formally incorporated into the Russian Constitution in September 2022. Constitutional Reality in Moscow: Following Russia’s formal annexation decree in late 2022, Putin repeatedly insisted that the "new territorial realities" were non-negotiable. Reverting to pre-2022 lines was explicitly ruled out by the Kremlin's public and private declarations. Rewarding Aggression: Surrendering Crimea formally would validate Russia's aggressive land grabs, violate international law regarding territorial integrity, and leave the Black Sea permanent security threat unaddressed. 4. The July 2024 Energy Ceasefire & Kursk Claim: Ukraine disrupted an energy ceasefire mediated via the Middle East by launching the Kursk operation. Rebuttal: Asymmetric Warfare and Strategic Initiative: The Kursk offensive was a tactical and strategic necessity designed to relieve pressure on the Eastern front in Donetsk, force Russia to reallocate troops to its own border, create a territorial bargaining chip, and demonstrate that Russia’s border was vulnerable. Russian Destruction of Energy Grids: Russia began its systematic campaign to destroy Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the fall of 2022—long before Kursk. Moscow’s attacks on civilian infrastructure were designed to freeze the civilian population into submission, not to negotiate a genuine energy truce in good faith. Leverage for Peace: A state defending itself against an existential threat cannot rely on unratified, informal promises while its eastern territory is being taken day by day. 5. Blaming the Victim for Destruction and "Degradation" Claim: Because Ukraine did not accept Russia's terms, Ukrainian leadership is responsible for the destruction of the country, casualties, and degradation of the state. Rebuttal: Shifting Moral and Legal Guilt: Every dead Ukrainian, ruined power plant, and displaced refugee is the direct legal and moral responsibility of the aggressor - the Russian Federation - which launched an illegal, unprovoked full-scale war of conquest. Blaming Ukraine for defending its territory is classical victim-blaming. Capitulation vs. Survival: Capitulation does not stop human suffering; it merely converts battlefield fighting into mass repression, occupation terror, forced Russification, conscription of Ukrainians into the Russian military, and the elimination of the Ukrainian nation-state. Summary The premise of Mendel's narrative rests on the false assumption that Vladimir Putin was acting as a rational actor offering genuine peace in good faith. Throughout the conflict, Russia’s fundamental goal has remained unchanged: the total political control or subjugation of Ukraine. Ceasefire proposals offered by Moscow under terms of demilitarization and territorial concession are not paths to peace; they are operational pauses designed to secure Russian gains and set up the next phase of conquest. Defending sovereignty against an existential threat is not a choice made out of stubbornness - it is a necessity for survival.
Let’s go through the peace deals Zelenskyy rejected. • Istanbul agreement, 2022 Ukraine needed to refuse NATO accession, reduce the army, Russia would withdraw from the Kyiv reg., possibly from the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions. At that point the scale of destruction was still limited and the number of dead was far lower. In April 2022 Zelenskyy declined the deal. • End of 2022 Russian forces withdrew from part of the Kherson region. Zelenskyy traveled to meet Biden and, acc. to my sources, later confirmed by Mr. Blinken in the New York Times, persuaded the WH to continue the war. The precise terms of any proposed deal remain unknown, but sources indicate there was readiness to declare at least a ceasefire. • Beginning of 2023 Through unofficial channels between the United States and Russia, an understanding took shape: Putin agreed to withdraw to the borders that existed before the full-scale invasion—freeing nearly everything conquered that year—in exchange for Ukraine’s refusal of NATO accession and recognition of Crimea as Russian. Zelenskyy and Yermak refused. Since then nearly a million people have been killed or wounded, several million have become refugees, parts of the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions have been occupied, more of Zaporizhzhia has been taken, Kherson lies in ruins, the Chernihiv and Sumy regions face constant shelling, Kyiv itself has become almost a front-line city, the energy system has been destroyed, businesses cannot operate, exports have stalled, and the country is degrading. • July 2024 An arrangement that began with an energy ceasefire, modeled on the Istanbul understandings and mediated through the Middle East. While negotiations were under way, Zelenskyy also planned the Kursk operation, which ultimately disrupted all the arrangements. • March 2025 After the Oval Office clash between Trump and Zelenskyy, European leaders gathered in London in early March. The British government stated that a number of options were on the table and that Ukraine had to choose. As always, nothing came of it. Whether Putin was prepared each time to implement any agreements remains unknown, yet on several occasions he carried out what he had promised. Does this remove his responsibility for the deaths, the horrors, and the destruction in Ukraine? No. But the country is degrading, the state apparatus is degrading, and corruption finishes what Putin’s missiles, drones, and bombs did not destroy. Inhumanity has effectively become a state strategy and a national ideology promoted at every turn. Ukraine simply cannot win this way—there are neither economic, nor demographic, nor any other grounds for it. Therefore, if Zelenskyy does not agree to a deal with realistic terms now, Ukraine will be forced to capitulate. And that is deeply alarming, because it can actually cost the country its independence and sovereignty.

🇺🇦🇪🇺 NEW: Ukraine says it has completed its part of FREYJA, the multinational project to develop a European ballistic missile defence system. But where does the rest of the project stand? • 🇺🇦 Fire Point - FP-7.X interceptor and launcher development. • 🇩🇪 Hensoldt - Radar cooperation agreement. • 🇩🇰 Weibel - Proposed radar option. • 🇳🇴 Kongsberg - Developing command-and-control integration. • 🇩🇪 Diehl Defence - Potential missile seeker supplier. The project involves 10 founding countries and more than a dozen defence companies. Fire Point has already conducted multiple interceptor tests, but integrating the radars, guidance systems and command infrastructure remains a major challenge. Next milestone: A working prototype targeted for H1 2027, with the first ballistic missile interception test planned around mid-2027. FREYJA is not operational yet. Its ambition is to provide Europe with a substantially cheaper alternative to existing ballistic missile interceptors.

China's 2008 is happening now. Property investment in China dropped -21% YoY in the first 9 months of 2026, its largest decline for this period of the year on record. This marks a deterioration from a -20% YoY decline in the first 8 months of 2026. The latest drop is also significantly worse than the -16% decline recorded during the 2020 pandemic. Property investment in China has now contracted every month since 2022, its longest declining streak on record. For perspective, during the 2008 Financial Crisis, this figure never fell below +1% YoY growth. China's property sector is experiencing a historic downturn.
