Work update.
I've been working independently for the past 4 years. At some point I realised that doing it alone wasn't for me.
I felt capped on what I could learn, who I could work with, the impact I could have. So naturally it felt right to join a team that enables all these things (plus are just super cool people to work with)
Moving forward, I'm going to be working more permanently with Special Projects (s-p.studio).
Grateful and excited pals.

Looking for cinema4d expert. Freelance or full-time. We are located in Pasadena, ca. please dm asap.
Had a chat yesterday with an engineer looking to build his own studio / go full time freelance.
I found myself repeating the same advice about getting opportunities to work with epic companies.
It comes down to 2 things:
1. Be a normal, enjoyable person to work with. Don’t be a serious sally. Have fun. Go the extra mile. Take shit off other people’s plates. Own your responsibilities. Respond fast to queries. Care.
2. Obsess over your craft. There’s no amount of bullshit you can talk that will hide your inability to build something great. Focus on getting better every day. It compounds fast.
It's easy to get wrapped up in the 101 things that don't matter.
But if you focus on expressing these two values online, the right people will find you.
It just takes some time.
Improved the long overdue mobile experience for the OS site.
Excited to build this out further with essays, tools I’m building, and small moments I think are dope.
We built a new page to show off the manufacturing side of 1X.
Art direction is nuts as always. Factory fly through was super fun to build.
There's lots of claude skills being published that replace your thinking in certain areas. I love them. It's sick to get a sneak peek into how others think.
But there's a problem.
Replacing your thinking with someone else's skill gives you a short term productivity boost but kills your learning ability long term.
I don't know what the best solution is, but I've set up personal guardrails to kill the claude interaction when I go into a "red zone".
I consider a red zone something I'm trying to improve at, or something that makes me unique in the marketplace.
Things like:
- Writing.
- Taste (determining what's good vs bad).
- Design exploration.
- Complex UI interactions.
- Idea generation.
- Business strategy.
- Project architecture.
It pulls me up every time I start trying to outsource this thinking to the model.
It killed my interaction 6 times in the first week of using it. Which was kinda shocking for me.
I'm not going to publish this skill because it wouldn't make sense for anyone else. Your red zones are different from mine. The whole point is figuring out what's uniquely valuable about how you work, then protecting that.
Hopefully this is a nice reminder that your mind is like your body. We know that if we don't work out our bodies we get fat.
Same shit happens with your mind.

Notes apps are everywhere.
And yet I can't find one I love.
Folders to organise. Systems to maintain.
I spend more time managing my notes than actually writing them.
A folder doesn't quite fit.
A note falls through the gap.
You restructure.
You give up.
Notes should be easier than that....
My main notes app was @NotionHQ.
But I kept building the system instead of using it.
So when @Shpigford & @linuz90 shared their new note apps this week, figured it was time to share mine.
Meet tilla.
A notes app that does the organising for you.
Write freely, in Markdown, saved locally to your machine.
tilla automatically tags, categorises and organises everything in the background. Without you even noticing
Search across everything.
Chat with your notes.
Rediscover things you forgot you wrote.
No folders. No filing. Just thinking.
It's early days. Sign up if this sounds familiar.

Working on a much needed mobile update for the OS site.
A little escape from the overstimulating internet world we live in.
