For weeks, some racist Western media outlets published story after story against Professor Jason Arday, at times every few hours, branding him a plagiarist. They hounded him relentlessly, and the pressure became too much for him. He committed suicide in August, aged just 41. This week, he was cleared of plagiarism yet again. A fresh investigation by the academic publisher Taylor & Francis found nothing to support the allegations. Of the four formal investigations into his work, not one substantiated the charge. The same publications that hunted him are now silent. They have not corrected their reporting, and they have not had the decency to admit they were wrong. This is how hard it is to be Black in a deeply racist world, and to succeed where they expect you to fail. Even those who present themselves as the moral conscience of the Western world have nothing to say. In a shameful act, the Oxford Reform Society has invited Nathan Cofnas, the self-described "race realist" who first raised the plagiarism allegations against Professor Arday, to speak at Oriel College next month. Oriel College, the home of Cecil John Rhodes’ statue. These institutions are racist. Sadly, Black leaders have failed to build rival institutions that give Black people respect and intellectual dignity. We are forced to endure disrespect because our leadership has failed us completely. Black billionaires line up to hand money to these institutions in exchange for meaningless honorary titles, instead of building our own. May Professor Arday's soul rest in peace. You were hounded to your death by publications that today do not even have the shame to admit they were wrong.

Clearing his name after he’s no longer here to see it. Rest in peace, Professor Jason Arday. You deserved your flowers while you were still, here. #writing #WritingCommmunity

The Supreme Court’s decision decimating the Voting Rights Act threatens to return the country to a pre-1965 America, when white supremacy was the law of the land, and Congress contained no Black members from the South. “This has sent us back, in my view, over 60 years.” motherjones.com/politics/202…

If you’re unclear Amanpour’s exit from CNN after 43 years has to do with the Ellison takeover and her coverage of Israel/Gaza you’re not paying attention. Fascism is taking hold in 🇺🇸, as the Trump-friendly pro-Israel oligarchs buy up the outlets.

A good summary of how much Meta is in the tank for Trump. And a reminder that the authoritarian threat comes not just from within the Trump administration but from its oligarchic allies. Oligarchic power is now a clear and present threat to our democracy. open.substack.com/pub/popula…

At the very outset of his first term, David Crowley knew he had to "put Milwaukee County on a better financial path." The long-term impact of the pension scandal and years of defunding from state Republicans crunched the County's budget, even after hundreds of millions in cuts under Chris Abele in the 2010's. He was able to address many of those longstanding issues in his first term with Act 12 and the small sales tax increase that saved County government. therecombobulationarea.com/p…

Gary, Indiana doesn’t have power for the same reason Flint, Michigan didn’t have clean water, for the same reason Jackson, Mississippi hasn’t gotten state funds for necessary infrastructure improvements. Gary, Indiana is 76% Black. Flint, Michigan is 57% Black. Jackson, Mississippi is 82% Black. It really isn’t that hard to figure out.

For FIFTY YEARS after slavery ended, Black newspapers ran a special kind of classified ad and they are the most heartbreaking documents in American print. They were called "Lost Friends" and "Information Wanted" ads. Freed people, searching for family sold away decades earlier. Mothers describing children by a scar on a knee, a song they hummed, the name of the trader who drove them off. Husbands naming a wife last seen at an auction in 1849. Grown men searching for a mother whose face they'd carried since age six. One New Orleans paper's column was read aloud from the pulpits of some 800 churches — so the ads could reach people who could not read, in every congregation, every Sunday.
