Being a walrus calf is a full time job. 🩵 Orphaned without his mother, this little guy needs near-constant socialization, so his rehabilitation team steps in as his surrogate family. Because of the intensive care and human socialization, he won't be a candidate for release. Senior Marine Mammal Trainer Erika A. is assisting in providing the care, companionship and attention he needs to thrive. His rehabilitation also provides an opportunity to advance our understanding of Alaska's marine life while making him an important ambassador for his species and the protection of marine ecosystems. This calf was admitted to the @AlaskaSeaLife Wildlife Response Program for rehabilitation, where he is receiving care from a dedicated group of experts coming from near and far to lend a helping hand. 🐾 📸 : Senior Marine Mammal Trainer Erika A. #indianapoliszoo #indianapolis #walrus #wildliferescue
