Police departments in Texas, New York, and Washington DC are using Israeli spyware Cognyte for real-time monitoring of smart devices. Cognyte tracks social media posts to create "threat scores," for instance classifying someone as a "drug mule" if they make an Instagram post about expensive perfume inconsistent with expected income levels.

This is one of many Flock cameras in my area that are pointed at a place without a road. There are tens of thousands of cameras like this around the US.
But still, constantly, we're told "They only record vehicles".
And then police expect us to TRUST them with this tech?

Lots of psychoanalyzing the US addiction to war here, avoiding the simpler, clearer truth: our politicians choose war because they are rewarded for pursuing wars by the lobbying interests -- defense companies and pro-Israel PACS -- they serve. This is about corruption first and foremost, ideology a useful cover. nytimes.com/2026/08/30/us/po…

BREAKING: The U.S. Army launched almost 96 to 128 MIM-104F PAC-3 MSE surface-to-air missiles from its Patriot PAC-3 air-defense batteries in Jordan tonight against Iranian ballistic missiles. They launched three to four interceptors at each one of 32 Iranian ballistic missiles!
This means that if the IRGC Aerospace Force launches just three more large-scale ballistic missile attacks like tonight’s against Jordan, the U.S. Army could run out of Patriot interceptors. It would then be left with two options: either remain in Jordan without sufficient Patriot interceptors or withdraw its forces to Israel and seek protection from the IDF.

Gen. Dan Caine reportedly warned the White House that the United States lacked sufficient munitions, and allied support, to sustain an extended large-scale campaign.
Six months later, America's military leadership is confronting precisely that problem.
🇺🇸 The U.S. military is beginning to formally push back against the force demands of the Iran war.
A classified Pentagon assessment obtained by The Washington Post reveals that several senior military leaders have warned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that sustaining the current operation is becoming increasingly dangerous.
More than 50,000 U.S. troops have now been kept on alert in the Middle East for months.
And the disagreement has entered the Pentagon's formal force-allocation process.
The commanders of U.S. European Command, Pacific Command and Southern Command, along with the Chief of Naval Operations, registered “non-concurs” with orders extending forces committed to the Middle East.
They will execute the orders, but they have formally recorded their disagreement with them.
One person familiar with the classified assessment summarized the military leadership's view of the six-month Iran operation: “Too much for too long.”
The Navy's warning is particularly severe. Adm. Daryl Caudle told Hegseth that the Navy cannot sustain its current level of support for the Iran conflict with no anticipated end date.
Barely one-quarter of the Navy's destroyer fleet is currently ready to deploy.
Continued demands risk disrupting maintenance badly enough to reduce the fleet's availability if another conflict erupts.
The strain is already spreading across theaters. EUCOM and SOUTHCOM warned that transferring ships and surveillance aircraft to CENTCOM has degraded their ability to fulfill homeland-defense obligations.
Adm. Samuel Paparo, commanding U.S. forces in the Pacific, objected to the continuing transfer of assets including an aircraft carrier strike group and destroyers.
The Navy's only dedicated Pacific carrier was sent to the Middle East to relieve another carrier that had already accumulated more than 300 days on deployment.
And personnel rotations are stretching dramatically. Elements of the 82nd Airborne mobilized for the Iran war are being extended to one-year deployments.
Some Air Force units are expected to remain in the Middle East into 2027.
Then there are the weapons. Patriot inventories have been depleted, THAAD interceptors have been consumed, Tomahawk stocks have been drawn down, around 25% of the Pentagon's Reaper fleet has been lost.
The consequences are becoming strategic. The Post reports that Patriot depletion has already constrained Washington's ability to re-escalate against Iran because Tehran retains the ability to strike U.S. facilities across the Middle East.
Perhaps the most important detail comes from before the war even began: Gen. Dan Caine reportedly warned the White House that the United States lacked sufficient munitions, and allied support, to sustain an extended large-scale campaign.
Six months later, America's military leadership is confronting precisely that problem.
Iran does not need to defeat the United States militarily for this dynamic to matter, It needs to keep enough American ships, aircraft, air defenses, troops and munitions committed for long enough that the costs begin appearing elsewhere.
That threshold may now be approaching.

Finally getting around to reading @TimWeinerAuthor's book “The Mission”. Extremely sloppy reporting /fact checking in the cablegate chapter. Assange was not accused of sending Manning password crack software, only that he offered to look up the hash in existing rainbow tables. /1
Around the fourth hour of my detention at the airport, I decided to ask for a lawyer. The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent at the front desk refused. I told him that he can't indefinitely hold an American citizen.
"It's not indefinite," he replied. "We'll let you know."
That little exchange captures the absolute power that CBP claims over travelers, including Americans, going far beyond any domestic law enforcement interrogation. You don't have a right to contact a lawyer. Neither do you have a right to know why you're being detained or what will happen next. It's not "indefinite" detention; they just won't tell you what the "definite" part is. Crossing the U.S. border is the closest most Americans will come to experiencing life under the foreign dictatorships I report on.
