The existence of intelligence proves that the potential for intelligence belongs to reality. We may not be able to see that potential at the fundamental level, describe what it looks like, or understand how it becomes actual. But its actualization proves the potential was real. That matters enormously. It means reality contains truths about itself that may be invisible to observation until they become expressed. We can observe the process without necessarily being capable of seeing everything that makes the process possible. So what we currently observe at the bottom of physics cannot automatically be equated with everything reality ultimately is. Reality has already demonstrated that it contains possibilities that only become visible after and when they unfold. Further, those possibilities represent a literal immaterial realm of possibilities that’s either a thing unto itself, or itself constructed beyond our comprehension.

I think people have forgotten, or were never shown, how good it feels to think about someone else and do for them. Doing things for yourself feels good, but the feeling fades fast, and the loop gets repetitive. Add doing for others to the life you’re building for yourself, and you’ll be happier. If you don’t have kids, or don’t want them, you have to find other ways to live beyond yourself. Otherwise, it’s just the same boring-ass loop of self.

Coward “No one taught them how to bear a thing, so they throw their rage like children. They attempt to control reality, not allowing it to correct them. They never amend. So they shrink and wither, on a course toward nothingness. Their condition is pathos. They needn’t see it for it to be true. Remember that: injustice does not change what is. Their persona is a diversion from an immovable truth: pitiful attempts to explain themselves, with a reflective audience they despise gathered close for reassurance. Their merciless gaze can never outrun its closed loop, so it inevitably turns inward. Judgment can only serve as distraction, until it turns around and stares back. That’s when the horror begins— all at once, in a moment of silence, The water stills & your reflection hits: the missed opportunities, your choices, your accumulated existence. It didn’t work. The lie of your importance. You’re just a fog. Silence is a mirror. What’s seen can’t be unseen. You double down, but it’s too late. Your strength is a mirage; its machinery has been revealed as cowardice. You fight it, but your will came from rationalization. It’s not there. Worst of all, you’re forgetful— unnoticed beyond what you hated. your own ridicule begins to ridicule you into nothingness. You consume yourself like a maggot. You were just a stinkbug aspiring to be a mosquito who dreamed of being a tick. The parasite, the succubus, the accuser. The human coward and his lonely scream.” —Charlie Jenkins

Science can explain the how, but it can’t answer the why behind the whys. That why is there, like potentiality revealed by actuality, like the mathematically perfect circle. Answering the why, however you can, is the point of life. Either everything evolved and means nothing beyond survival, or the universe has moral meaning, with the need for choice buried deep in its design. And every fact that seems to reduce life to survival may be part of what makes choice possible. Both possibilities are coherent. The fact that both are coherent and possible feels like a hint.

This is a really funny moment.
WHOOPS! This is slipping under the radar. That moment of Ilhan Omar’s interviewer with Chris Hayes were they both realize they might have accidentally done real journalism about the anomalies of the financials of her husband’s business. Watch and share.

It’s mind-boggling that the least scientifically strained explanation for the Shroud of Turin’s image gradient is a source traveling across the air gap between the body and the cloth.

The Ottoman state began as a tiny principality in Anatolia & grew into an empire across Anatolia, Balkans, and the Middle East. The rise of a small regional power into an expansionist force isn’t new. Israel isn’t unique, just post atom bomb, international rights, and ubiquitous media. the old model of conquest is castrated by morality.
