Duane Allman died 55 years ago today. He was 24.
In just a few years, he redefined slide guitar, led the Allman Brothers to At Fillmore East, one of the greatest live albums ever, and played the soaring slide on Clapton's "Layla," a part many people still think is Clapton. Taken at his peak. They called him Skydog.
Here he is at the Fillmore East, 1970.

Amy Winehouse and the coconut vendor she saved in Saint Lucia.
In 2009, during a long stay on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, Amy Winehouse ran into Julian Jean-Baptiste on the beach, a 45-year-old coconut vendor who earned barely one pound a day. The man was suffering from a severe, life-threatening hernia, with no financial means to pay for the surgery he needed.
Amy, without making a public fuss about the gesture, sent her bodyguard with the money to cover the medical expenses, which totaled over 4,000 pounds. Julian underwent surgery on July 1, 2009, and later said that the procedure literally saved his life, something he otherwise would never have been able to afford.
After the successful surgery, Amy continued to check on his condition regularly. When he tried to thank her and return the favor in some way, she flatly refused, responding with a simple smile that no thanks were necessary.

A Israeli farmer, walking through his hay field, notices a man kneeling down and drinking from his farm pond with his hand. The farmer shouts,
"Al tishte et hamayim. Haporot chirbeynu b'mayim".
(Which means: "Don't drink the water, the cows shit in the water")
The kneeling man shouts back, angrily, "I'm a Muslim, You Infidel!!! I don't understand you. I speak Arabic and English. If you can't speak in the Sacred tongue of Islam, speak to me in English!!!"
The Jewish farmer politely replies, "Use two hands, you'll get more.”

K.K. Downing turns 75 today. Here he is in 2009, ripping his solo on “Victim of Changes,” the song he helped create in Priest’s earliest days.
This was the British Steel 30th Anniversary tour, near the end of his 40 years with the band. He left in 2011, but came roaring back with KK’s Priest.
