🚨 Jackdaw Gas Field Approved 🇬🇧
The UK Government has green-lit the Jackdaw gas field off the coast of Aberdeen. Production is set to begin by the end of this month.
Where is the gas going?
Most of the gas from the Jackdaw field will flow directly into the UK domestic energy network via the St Fergus terminal. At peak production, it is expected to supply roughly 6% of total UK gas demand, helping to boost domestic energy security.
Who gets the money?
Commercial profits from gas sales will go to the operators, Shell and Equinor.
The UK Exchequer will collect profit-related taxes, which are projected to raise nearly £4 billion by 2034.
The Green Transition: These tax revenues are earmarked for the government’s new Energy Wealth Fund to invest directly in clean energy projects.
While the boost in domestic supply improves energy reliability, the government notes it will not immediately lower household utility bills.
