Today the PHP project released security updates addressing two critical "PHP2Shell" vulnerabilities. If your site is hosted on @wordpressdotcom, @WordPressVIP, @wpcloudofficial, @Pressable, @tumblr, or any Automattic infrastructure, you’re already protected. Managing PHP yourself? Here’s what to do: automattic.com/2026/10/21/yo…

Happy to announce the launch of the new 100 Year website we built for the person who coined the term "personal computer' and co-created the first online community: @stewartbrand. It includes his entire ~50,000 photo archive that is now in the Public Domain stewartbrand.org/

It’s almost like Open Source is the natural order of things. Those that embrace this law will, ultimately, be on the right side of history, bumpy as it may feel along the way.
Proprietary binaries are no longer a moat. Solo devs running Claude Code with IDA Pro and Ghidra MCPs are decompiling 5-year AAA game engines and closed SaaS in weeks. Everything compiled on consumer hardware is becoming open source by default. The game decomp wave: • @rehan_shei decompiled MW2 & modding AoE: xitter.cf/rehan_shei/status/2106… • @ammaar took a 1993 DOS binary to iPhone in 30 min: xitter.cf/ammaar/status/20654916… • @profchise on Opus 5.5 porting console games: xitter.cf/profchise/status/21063… The tooling making binary moats obsolete: • @mrexodia running Claude directly inside IDA Pro via MCP: xitter.cf/mrexodia/status/190543… • @bl4sty on automated decompiler loops: xitter.cf/bl4sty/status/19048434… • @OrcaRouter reversing closed agent harnesses: xitter.cf/OrcaRouter/status/2105… #AI #GameDev #ReverseEngineering #OpenSource #SoftwareEngineering

Some of the best conversations at @automattic happen internally. I’ve often wished more people could hear them. Zander Rose’s interviews with people like Seth Godin are a great example. So I’ve been working with @zander to bring these conversations to the WordPress.com YouTube channel. Our first livestream guest? Neal Stephenson, author of Snow Crash, joining us to talk about his new book, D: Heavy Water. I’m thrilled we get to share this one. Click ‘Notify me’ to join us 👇 youtube.com/live/kdw0QmlFTtA

The WordPress Credits (WPCredits) program lets students earn academic credit by contributing to WordPress. The first feedback report, covering 242 students, shows the program works. The main challenge: getting started. Next steps include a school kit and tailored tracks by field of study. make.wordpress.org/project/?…

I've been so inspired by all the work at #radicalspeedmonth, and also all the work by the people keeping the lights on while 695 people at @automattic experimented. Lots of fun is in store. :)

This...
I’ve been building products for 10 years, and one thing I keep seeing is people saying, “I built a thing,” as if that’s the hard part. It usually isn’t. What makes the thing fly is everything around it: the hustle, positioning, distribution, iteration, listening, refining, and showing up again and again. That’s also probably why they didn’t build it sooner. The product is only part of the job.

WordPress now runs entirely in your browser. my.WordPress.net gives you a complete, private WordPress environment with no sign-up and no hosting plan needed. Everything stays on your device. You can use it to write, learn, experiment, or build with pre-configured apps like a personal CRM or RSS reader. wp.me/pZhYe-59R

I'm glad Anthropic held the line, but that we live in a world where it is up to DOD contractors to enforce basic morals and the laws against spying on our own citizens, there is a serious problem.
