Back at my happy place after a long break. Mist, spells of rain, interesting people who drop by, birds, dragonflies, leeches, cicadas, snakes, leeches. So much to keep "being" with, observing, feel joy about. (termites, fungus too but that's ok. Even UPI will now be taxed :D)

Kinda agree. I'd like the govt to focus more on transparency and delivery at its end, not claim favours and largesse distribute to citizens who are their bosses and paid this in the first place....
As a tax payer I have not felt so insulted today with PM speech. We pay 30% from our income. I can show you my payslips. Aap samay dijiye. आपके तोते उड़ जाएंगे tax देखकर। I don't want any favour from you. I am ready to pay tax at 2014 rates. Ask FM to bring ancient tax regime.

Our legal, administrative and other structures finally value what we value collectively. Clearly, we're ready to sacrifice all living systems for contrived ideas of progress and development led by mad, inefficient economic activity and GDP.
Truly shocking. But then, who should be held culpable? NB: this isn't even the full list of judgements passed in favour of environmental destruction since 2019.

Dismiss everything as a coincidence or a conspiracy theory. Or start to at least try hold politicians and governments accountable. You owe the country *something* at least....
Modi desperately wants this documentary erased from the internet. Many users have also been forced to delete it. If you haven’t watched it yet, now is the time! Give it 36 minutes. You won’t regret it. xitter.cf/RajThackeray/status/21…

Which of these pics do you want your city to feel like?
Public transit is inconvenient because for the last 100 years we’ve designed our cities centric to cars instead of people and then pin issues like last mile infrastructure and reliability on transit.

Ditto for Indore. They actually dismantled the very useful BRTS there and almost nobody uses the metro. It was getting used for kitty parties!
Indian cities are building metros where 30-35 electric buses can transport the same 60k passengers trips at ~120-180x cheaper in capital cost & at 1/20th the operating cost. Build ridership capacity on the route before building a metro. Public taxes are not vanity.

It's also the lowest footprint, most naturally cool-able, allows for air and sunlight flow to all and keeps community interaction alive.
The secret to housing more people is Mid-rise, high-density mixed used neighbourhoods that can house millions, cut commute times, create commercial vibrancy while being walkable cities. Cities need density, not ego-driven skylines. So built smart & not just tall

Remember, dear fellow citizens, what they think of you and how they are willing to treat you if you ask questions of any kinds. Do NOT support political parties of any hue. They're self serving and not in your service.

Which the good. Which the evil? Happy Dussehra, folks. May we improve trade-offs, because line isn't black/white battles alone.

Meanwhile, the planet isn't waiting for our agreement. It is starting to react hard, sharp and quick.
Yikes. "After a week of contentious deliberations and some displays of temper, the IPCC suspended its 65th session without an agreement on either a timeline for the remainder of its Seventh Assessment Cycle or even a budget for the coming year." enb.iisd.org/intergovernment…

I have 21 years and 26 varieties to go. Also 25 of banana. Life goals. Seriously.
A tribal farmer from Wayanad died this week at 74. In his old mud house, he kept more than 60 traditional rice varieties alive. His name was Cheruvayal Raman. People called him Ramettan. He belonged to the Kurichya tribe in Wayanad, Kerala. When he was 17, his uncle died, and the family's traditional rice seeds came to him. Wayanad once had around 160 native rice varieties. Most of them have disappeared. He grew each old variety in its own small plot. Every year he harvested it, dried the seeds, and stored them in his mud house for the next season. He stopped using chemical fertiliser in 1978. He said the earthworms came back after that. It cost him around Rs 70,000 a year. Some years, his family lived on ration rice. When other farmers came asking, mostly tribal families, he gave them seeds without taking money. In 2023, he got the Padma Shri. Kerala Agricultural University made him a professor of practice. He once said, "Don't call me a hero. Make sure the seeds survive. That is enough."

It must take a huge amount of hubris or ignorance to believe that, as the planetary climate system shifts states, our human systems won't be forced to. Food, energy, transport, government, money - nothing will look like today at all, possibly in 10 years. Maybe 20.

For generations we have been converting - destructively - planetary systems into money, calling it wealth creation, innovation, value addition and all of that. Today we stand at a point where we stare at multidimensional collapse. At least

from our pov (for the planet it's just a state shift). Whatever emerges is uncertain, but the one thing we must start doing urgently and rapidly is converting money back into a working planet to the extent we can. Whatever answers we find will be in there.

As the planetary systems unravel, we continue to celebrate this kind of "smart" that has now locked in a terrible fate for our kids and the living planet they will inherit. I think humanity deserves the extinction it's headed towards.
Yesterday Elon Musk tweeted in a conciliatory tone to Reliance and Mukesh Ambani. A high powered US team headed by US Secretary of State Rubio is coming to India today and will be there for a few days. The sole focus is visiting the Jamnagar refinery and meeting Mukesh Ambani and his team to procure refined products, especially diesel, for the US. Even oil rich countries like America and Russia do not currently have sufficient refining capacity. Due to recent geopolitical conflicts, a lot of refineries have been destroyed or have become dysfunctional. As I mentioned in the last post, Reliance’s Jamnagar complex is the world’s largest single site refining facility and is among the most sophisticated in the world. It can process a wide range of crude grades, including heavy and difficult to refine crudes. So America now needs India’s help, to be precise Mukesh Ambani’s help. Mukesh has already initiated the process of building a refinery in America too. Decades ago, Dhirubhai Ambani built the world’s largest and most sophisticated refinery in Jamnagar. He was way ahead of his time. And that’s helping our country now.
