People are saying this Steam Next Fest is full of AI slop, so I checked the actual numbers.
36.4% of games in this Steam Next Fest disclose AI use (2,645 of 7,266).
Looking at new Steam releases overall in 2026, the rate has risen from 31.3% in January to 46.1% in September. This Next Fest is roughly at the same level as May (35.9%).
What the disclosures mention (Next Fest):
• Image/video assets: ~72%
• Translation & localization: 28.4% (vs 15.6% for regular releases, +12.8 pts)
Note: Since January 2026, Steam no longer requires disclosing AI used as a development tool (such as coding assistance), so mentions of code are voluntary.
Disclosures are self-reported, so some games may be using AI without saying so. Reviews currently flag AI use on 2.8% of demos from non-disclosing games (47 of 1,661). Most demos still have few reviews, so I’ll check again after Next Fest ends.
