After spending weeks displaced in tents under difficult conditions, they returned to the damaged house because they had nowhere else to stay. Suhad lives with a heart condition, while her husband suffers from chronic heart disease, high blood pressure, and spinal cartilage damage. All five of their children have thalassemia, a serious blood disorder that requires ongoing supplements and medical care that the family can no longer afford. The children were also injured and deeply affected by the bombings, and continue to experience panic attacks after witnessing the deaths of relatives and friends. With no income and severe shortages of food and medicine, the family sometimes survives on little more than salt to ease hunger while trying to secure basic treatment and daily necessities.
