Small announcement: ✅ formal-git As an experiment, over the last 2 months we've modelled ~30% of Git in Lean 4, making heavy use of coding agents, and proved >8000 theorems of varying usefulness about the implementation. In the process of doing this we've uncovered >100 potential defects in Git v2.55, at least two of which may constitute security vulnerabilities. We've also built a DRT (differential random testing) harness and the biggest corpus of relevant pinned differential test cases for Git implementations with >10k unique tests at the moment. We've used the test cases to test our own small internal implementation of Git in TypeScript. The next step will be to differentially test all notable public Git implementations against this corpus of tests to help improve their correctness and security 🫡 We'll be reaching out to library maintainers in due course. If you have a Git implementation you'd like us to help you test, please reach out and let me know. We'll open-source all this eventually, after potential security issues that were uncovered are responsibly disclosed and fixed.

Jonathan Haidt, known for efforts to remove smartphones from schools, has a notion that AI is not good for education. Many before him have tied learning to exerting effort and even writing by hand. I don't think the result will be simple - our conception of learning will change.

Learning will unavoidably become more Socratic and interactive, but this non-linear style of traversing the gradient of interest/engagement seems more suitable for how the mind works. Attempting to read an unfamiliar technical material cover-to-cover was always unpleasant.

As all involving AI, the future will not be a simple exponetial extrapolation of the current state, but a change which we can't simply describe by mapping the current context or explaining with current terms Basically, things will be different(not a very insightful conclusion😂)

Effect's only notable drawback was that it was tedious to write (LLMs solve this). Once you get used to it, good Effect code is pleasant to read (composes well, DI, functional...) There's a lot of alpha in languages that were difficult to write, but have a super power (e.g. Nix)
i’m confident in saying that i will never start another typescript application or project without @EffectTS_ it’s reached critical enough adoption, provides distinct tailwinds to agents, and has great cloudflare support that it’d be a mistake not to at this point

A few months ago, @stripe invited me to an interview. I assumed it was a Zoom call and said yes. Turns out the Stripe team flew 10,000+ km to Nigeria to film it. For one solo founder 🤯 We talked about stablecoins and building a global company from Nigeria on Stripe... which is a topic I have very strong opinions on. Stripe has made this nothing but a joy! @FerndeskHQ was incorporated through Stripe Atlas, every customer payment lands via Stripe, and we use Stripe treasury for some of our banking. I did not expect a payments company to care this much about a one-person business in Port Harcourt. Especially not one that moves almost two trillion dollars a year. But they flew out anyway! As AI eats the boring parts of running my business, I want the time it gives back to fuel things like this. Showing up for customers in the ways no agent can. Thanks again Stripe 🙏

Finding a counterexample to an old conjecture seems like a low-hanging-fruit type of problem for frontier models.
hello there the jacobian conjecture is false thanx to my close friend akhil for asking about it and my other close friend fable for working during the world cup final ((1+xy)^3 z + y^2 (1+xy) (4+3xy), y + 3 x (1+xy)^2 z + 3 x y^2 (4+3xy), 2 x - 3 x^2 y - x^3 z): \C^3\to \C^3, has jacobian determinant -2, and sends (0, 0, -1/4), (1, -3/2, 13/2), and (-1, 3/2, 13/2) to (-1/4, 0, 0)

Fun fact my software lets you code on a jelly phone 📱🤏💫
talked to this girl selling onigiri at the farmer’s market this morning and she took my payment on the smallest smartphone I’ve ever seen. it’s called “jelly star” — I was blown away. my question now is how can we get apple to make one of these bc I refuse to use android

This is how I stay in the loop with @hackernews. I call it hntop, every 10 min: 1. fetch new comments (Algolia API + HN API) 2. filter matching keywords 3. filter out false-positives with an LLM 4. sentiment analysis Built with @pidotdev, ink, bun.

The future of learning math. Add Lean into the mix and you get a learning harness for the human mind: reduce effort from an idea to formulas, verify the chain of logic - noticing and learning patterns becomes almost inevitable.
I never loved math, until i started using Fable 5. Tip: Try converting skills into formulas! and see the performance and consistency unlock. Thank me later.
