There was a chap at Oxford who came up in the 80s to research the 4 year tenure of a Yorkshire bishop. He spent 40 years on it, draining an inheritance left on condition it was spent on his education. Daily Mass (sometimes several times a day), lobster every day at Brown's next to the Oratory (hence the gout), magnificent dinner parties for miscreants, oddballs and grad students, and generous to charity. His fingers were so fat that his signet rings appeared stuck to them. Having spent every last penny, he was evicted from his apartment and became a monk some 3 years ago. No wife, no kids, and I don't think the DPhil ever got finished. Top 5 most eccentric human beings I’ve met in my life. Bless him.
When I was at U Chicago we had a 53rd year PhD defense. They started a career in grad school and remained ABD until after retirement. All of our completion stats were skewed because they never officially left the program.

Showing my mom King Arthur (2004), as it related to our conversation at dinner and she asked “is there a Guinevere in this? 🤨” Me *knowing she is coming and she’s blue*: yes 😎

Phillip Island is for MotoGP what Le Mans is for endurance, Bathurst is for Supercars, Nurburgring is for the insane, and Spa is for F1. Something special nothing else will ever be able to replace

Pulling a woke uno reverse card to remind everyone the cathedrals of American dining are influenced by Sufism Reoriented symbology and many of the murals and themes are full of religious meaning and stories 😎❤️‍🔥
Cheesecake Factory interiors are famously over-the-top and gaudy. "Like a Cheesecake Factory designed by Saddam" is actually a great description of what Trump has done to the White House.
