I find it frustrating when managers are being compared to other managers in their ‘worst’ state vs another manager who is operating at his best.
Is Slot a better option for the current squad and utilising his resources better than the jaded version of Klopp who was desperate for a break from management? Absolutely.
However, Klopp’s sharpness in terms of player profiling and tactical proficiency had been declining towards the end of his regime, his hunger was fading and thus his accuracy in terms of decision making was getting weaker.
Prime Klopp when he first arrived at Liverpool built a phenomenally complete tactical machine… utilising False 9s with two goalscoring wingers (one more direct, one more playmaking type), a press which had two workhorse mids who can press supported by a CDM of elite quality and two monster CBs who could hold the high line with both full backs as overlapping and creative hubs. It was one of the most impressive tactical systems of the 21st century and went toe to toe with some brilliant brilliant sides.
Just because he ran out of steam by the end doesn’t mean he was tactically illiterate, even the great men can take their eye of the ball once they taste success and family issues and player issues come to the fore.
True test of Slot will be post departure of the old guard and has to build his own project. Done a brilliant job so far, but compare him at his worst to Klopp at his best in a few years - way too early to be shitting on Klopp legacy.
