Prayers for Uncle Yermo! Two-time US champ GM Alex Yermolinsky is hospitalized in Turkey after a quadruple bypass. Check out the following fundraiser co-organized by Grandmasters Shabalov and Kaidanov for more information. Your support is also appreciated. gofundme.com/f/uncle-yermo-n…

On Wednesday, world chess champion Garry Kasparov tied Deep Blue, the IBM supercomputer that can examine two hundred million positions per second, in the fourth game of their six-game series.
Earlier in the week, Kasparov admitted he committed a catastrophic blunder in game two, when he failed to force a draw by moving rook to E8. Opting instead for a Caro-Kann Defense, that soon transposed into a Pribyl defense. Which, after Deep Blue moved bishop to E7, gave him the advantage with his ninth position.
With all due respect to Mister Kasparov... what the hell were you thinking?!?
From Illinois to Norway, thanks guys! Hope to see you achieve the next stunt @sjakksnakk
We have picked @64Podcast as the winner of our competition! Congratulations!👏
The winner has given us a crazy idea which we will do our very best to execute in the future!
Thank you to everyone who participated. Stay tuned for a new competition coming up very soon!

Didn't know @GMHikaru and @MagnusCarlsen were playing in the Women Chess Olympiad?
This image is from the 2700chess.com site. Yes, it's what you believe. @MagnusCarlsen and I are playing a private classical match. If the chess community or some generous billionaire can come up with $1M US we will split the funds and release the PGNs. Any takers?
Alireza: Old man Hikaru is past his prime
Hikaru: Young man Hans is past his prime
"The fact is three of four players here are at a certain level... when you focus on the game and get away from all the distractions, I think I proved a point that I was clearly better than Hans, at least in blitz."

So this is what life coaching from Kramnik looks like
Niemann complains: "There's some resistance on my mouse when I move it... it's something with the server and the website."
Carlsen had a winning position when the issue happened and is up by seven points with three minutes on the match clock.

Chess fans try not to be racist and sexist challenge [IMPOSSIBLE]
It really makes me sick and disgusted 🤬 reading some of the (racist and sexist, etc.) online comments from mostly guys about this young and sweet 9 year old chess star, Bodhana Sivanandan. Instead of celebrating the incredible achievement of making the Olympiad team at age 9, these sickos posted derogatory comments.
Three years ago in 2021, with the help from my friend FIDE International Arbiter Shohreh Bayat, I invited Bodhana to a tournament I organized in London. This was when I first met her and her father. I met them several times at various tournaments since. Both are very nice and they asked a lot of questions about how to help Bodhana improve.
She is an amazing talent and I hope she will go very far in chess. It is sad that even in 2024, a young girl with a simple dream of becoming great in a field she loves, has to face so much abuse and insults. Unfortunately, she is not the only girl who has to deal with this. Many have to endure it. We need to do everything we can to protect these young girls.

The photo with Bodhana in the mask was taken during the London tournament (during Covid time) that I organized.
Chess needs and deserves better sponsors.
Sharjah Masters starts today with a strong field, including world #7 Arjun Erigaisi. However, financial conditions and prize funds are dire. Even 2600-2699 GMs are sharing rooms, with no coverage for flights. 1/4

the FIDE circuit is entirely a cost saving measure because FIDE doesn’t have the funds to run a real qualification cycle
it’s amazing that this isn’t a bigger scandal

Sargent’s “The Chess Game” at @Tate and he forgets the eval bar 🤦♀️
Played my first OTB tournament in a year and did quite well -- took 7th out of 17 and finished my tournament with a beautiful combination! Black to play and win
I'm not gonna get cooked on Twitter again. Nepo is the overwhelming favorite regardless of what the stats say
Here are @ChessNumbers' probabilities for the #FIDECandidates winner!

I've been meaning to address this article for a while, as it seems to have become quite popular in the chess world. In fact, last month I decided to investigate the gender gap in chess using FIDE data online.
All figures below were made by me. A long-ish thread:
This has to be one of the most comprehensive and fascinating articles on sex differences ever written.
Bravo @hoovlet (I know you worked hard on this!)
