Billy Napier shenanigans aside, a seriously underrated aspect to this JMU skid is that it hasn’t had a bye week yet (and won’t for another 2 weeks).
Short week at App, OT loss. Return home, OT loss. Those snaps & extra quarters add up.
Now back-to-back road games. Fatigue is real!

I think people don’t understand the level of investment it takes to be Gonzaga or VCU
The more realistic comparison is, let’s be the next Vermont

Ditching conference title games almost erases the meaning of conference titles, and they really do become simply groups with pooled media rights. If that's all they are, why wouldn't Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, etc., eventually go indie or form their own/smaller groups?
In the "second tier" of college sports' caste system, Miami is positioning itself for a conference move while exploring football independence and fighting against a federal bill.
"If we have to go independent," the president says, "I like our chances."

I think most JMU fans will gladly take our multiple east titles, SBC title, and CFP birth and you can claim the 3-1 head to head record against JMU. You don’t see the stupidity in that? Enjoy tonight. We will enjoy our extra $6M a year

It’s like junk food. It feels good in the moment to take points but it absolutely reduces your chance of winning the game and that is why across college and the NFL organizations that have billions of dollars invested in these outcomes continue to go for it on fourth down more each and every year.

Four guys saying what’s right. One guy is tripping.
Also please stop using JMU as the one/go to example for a blowout in a playoff game, they don’t deserve that. In a format that produced blowout after blowout after blowout, they held their own more than most have.

Just so we’re clear, if you go to a college with D1 athletics and think you’re not paying for those athletics programs because there isn’t a specifically listed fee on your tuition bill, you’re naive at best and willfully ignorant at worst.

How did a former all-women’s college - tucked amid the Virginia mountains, football-less until the 1970s - become one of the nation’s fastest-ascending athletic programs?
From Curt Cignetti to Bob Chesney and now to Billy Napier, inside the “JMU Way.”

The thing that concerns us is how the fans of other Sun Belt schools will react to the news….are words you will never hear us say.

From JMU: The [Sun Belt] exit fee is being covered by new private funding from generous supporters, while the [American Conference] entry fee has already been committed from new private corporate partners who championed this move.

The entrance fee that JMU is paying to the American is $23 million, per ESPN sources. JMU will get an American TV/postseason/NCAA share that’s in line with the recent additions to the league. The entry fee and the expected $5 million departure fee from Sun Belt is all privately raised money.

The @JMU Board of Visitors voted unanimously to authorize the university to apply for and accept an invitation for membership in the @American_Conf, and we did so with tremendous confidence and excitement for this university's future. The American Conference is the right home for James Madison University, academically, competitively, and geographically. This conference is where our academic peers compete, they have a shared vision for the future, it's where our alumni live and work, and where our student-athletes will thrive. The Madison Promise commits us to excellence and ambition, and this conference change reflects both. We are grateful for the Sun Belt Conference, its member institutions, and the championships and relationships we built together over the past few years. And as Rector of this board and as a proud JMU alumnus, I have never been more excited about the future of this university.

The American isn't adding anyone else imminently, per sources. They may add down the line, but this is not a pairing. The pressure of Sun Belt exit fees prompted this decision.
