I have nothing but rightful contempt for certain people who will get to see my work for free. Even before ai, the most uncreative of them steal my ideas and ask why wasn't I gone yet. If my work makes them feel anything, it should be the pang of jealousy.

It does tickle me that about 36 hours ago people were insisting that fanfic is free game for criticism bc its an art, but now on the flip side have no interest in supporting the art. Its art when you get to be mean, but just some worthless bullshit when you have to be nice?

nobody wants to engage fanfic writers with respect, no one wants to reach out to fanfic writers to discuss stuff about their work to build community, nobody wants fanfic writers to exist beyond the work that they offer to the community because fanfic writers are just a monolith.

I think a lot of us AO3 authors not only publish for people to read... We do so because we also want to meet more friends that connect with the art we make. It sounds banal to say we write for other people to hear us and talk to us, but I think a lot of us do.
