This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss.
The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes.
Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment.
To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

Mike Davis, a lawyer and Trump ally who advises the president on judicial selection, said Trump picked his Supreme Court justices under “unique time and circumstances”, when the Republicans had slim control of the Senate at the time.
The emphasis this time around is on “bold and fearless” judges, he said, meaning “justices who are going to follow the law, regardless of the political blowback they get from the left”.
Trump may not get the chance to test a new approach at the Supreme Court, however. Samuel Alito, after months of speculation that he would retire, in August signalled that he plans to remain on the court for at least another term.
And if Democrats win control of the Senate in November, the president would have difficulty confirming another nominee.
“You have to play the hand you’re dealt when you’re picking these judges,” Davis said. “If there was a nomination right now, President Trump could pick — and the Senate would confirm — a much more conservative justice than in his first term.
“After the election, that’s probably going to be a different story.”

"Democrat judges handpicked their own U.S. attorney. The President, through his attorney general, fired him. Under Article II of the Constitution, the President clearly has the executive power to fire Justice Department officials," Davis added.
Davis also noted Bastian’s first name was misspelled in the order, missing the "e" in Stanley.
"The Federal Judge misspelled his own name in his order. That's how you know it's quality legal work," wrote one user.
"Now Judge Bastian created an unnecessary constitutional crisis by essentially ordering a coup at the Justice Department, by ordering the removal of the President’s pick and putting in Bastian’s judicial puppet. The Ninth Circuit must fix this. Or the Supreme Court will have to step in. Again," Davis concluded.
