Thank you for your courage Raymond Asiku. #FreeSamMugumya #JusticeForSamMugumya
UPDATE: Raymond Eden Asiku, one of the individuals who swore an affidavit in the habeas corpus case, has told court that he was detained at the same facility as Sam Mugumya, although he could not identify the location because he was blindfolded. Asiku says Mugumya was alive when they were held together, adding that he and others would help carry Mugumya because he was unable to walk on his own. #MonitorUpdates 📹: Abubaker Lubowa

A week after a Rwandan that was fleeing from persecution was killed from Uganda, a Tanzanian dissident is kidnapped from Nairobi where he’s been living in exile for a year!! We are led and surrounded by criminals in the entire region! #FreeTwahaMwaipaya #EndAbductionsEA

Replying to @AAgather
A weaponized judicial system in motion. A complicit endorsement of human rights abuse. The writ of habeas corpus is inviolable. How can a judge of the high court treat this casually 🤷‍♀️ Repulsive!

AN AFFIDAVIT IN REPLY TO A HABEAS CORPUS APPLICATION FILED FOR SAM MUGUMYA IS NOT ACCOUNTABILITY: WHERE IS SAM MUGUMYA? The UPDF’s denial of custody of Sam Mugumya is not, by itself, an answer to the question of his whereabouts. Article 212(a) of the Constitution expressly mandates the Uganda Police Force to protect life and property. Article 209 of the Constitution further mandates the UPDF to preserve and defend Uganda’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to cooperate with civilian authorities in emergencies and disaster situations. More fundamentally, Articles 20(2), 23(9) and 44(d) require respect for human rights and make habeas corpus inviolable. Under Articles 6, 7 and 9 of the ICCPR, Uganda has obligations to protect life, prevent torture and arbitrary detention, and investigate credible allegations of enforced disappearance. Ugandans should therefore demand that Government account to Ugandans: What investigations have been undertaken to establish Sam Mugumya’s whereabouts? Which security agencies have been interrogated? What concrete efforts have been made to trace him? This is what political accountability entails! If the State neither holds him nor knows where he is, it must demonstrate that it has taken effective steps to find him. Otherwise Ugandans wouldn't be wrong to question the State's capacity to protect their lives and property A citizen’s disappearance cannot be answered with institutional denials alone. The Constitution of Uganda demands accountability, not evasion. Let the State bring Sam Mugumya before court, or establish transparently what happened to him. This is the most minimum response Ugandans expect from their government!

The case has been adjourned to 9th Nov. the judge has given the state 2 weeks to conclude investigations about the whereabouts of Sam Mugumya and file a report before the 9th. The state doesn’t need to conduct any investigations. It has Mugumya and they know where they are holding him, we have seen videos, witnesses have seen him, the CDF has admitted having him. What more are we looking for?
After appeals to the Principal Judge for reallocation, Sam Mugumya’s second bail application was moved from 17th Nov to today albeit before the same Judge, Kinobe. The state has already responded again, without any shame, denying having him in his custody or knowing his whereabout as the police officers illegally detaining and threatening @AloikinOpoloje told her! #FreeSamMugumya #JusticeForSamMugumya

The second habeas corpus application hearing for Sam Mugumya will happen today at 9am before Justice Simon Peter Kinobe. The application hearing has previously been postponed due to the unavailability of the Judge who has been prioritising election petitions. The habeas corpus application hearing had previously been rescheduled to 17th November 2026 before it was brought forward to today. The hearing of the habeas corpus application commences amidst continous denial by security organs of the arbitrary detention of Sam Mugumya despite viral video clips suggesting his detention by security operatives. #FreeSamMugumya

How long is this gonna last when our only weapon is pushing hashtags? East African dictators are more united than we the oppressed and that’s why they keep succeeding in whatever they do. When will we stand up for regime changes? I just think hashtags no longer work 🥹
