Lina Attalah is one of Egypt’s most principled & courageous journalists. On October 27, she goes on trial for running @MadaMasr without a license — a license the outlet has applied for since 2018 & the government has never granted. A conviction could bring heavy fines & the closure of one of Egypt’s last independent newsrooms.
This is the sixth case against Mada Masr in six years, but the first to reach trial. It comes just weeks after authorities jailed @matsda2sh's entire newsroom & called journalist Rasha Azab in for questioning over her posts. The government is tightening its grip on independent media, & the licensing charge is about punishing journalism it doesn’t like, not paperwork.
ACMER joined 100+ organizations & outlets worldwide in calling on Egypt to drop the charges, license Mada Masr, & free all jailed journalists. Our statement: acmer.us/urgent-global-call-…

I’ve done a lot of cable news interviews over the years, but I still get questions that shock me.
The IDF just detained a candidate for U.S. Congress and a group of American rabbis for helping Palestinians harvest their own olives. Brad has been released, but other Americans remain detained. Israel must immediately release them.
If this is what happens to Americans while cameras roll, imagine what happens to the farmers when no one's watching. xitter.cf/bradlander/status/2112…
I’ve been released from IDF custody with a “warning,” apparently because of my public profile (I told them I wasn’t even a congressmember yet, just a nominee).
But several dozen rabbis & participants harvesting olives with me are still in detention. For harvesting olives. They should all be released immediately.
To be clear: Palestinians face far worse consequences every day. These detentions by the IDF are one more attempt to undermine Palestinians’ right to harvest their olive groves, travel on their roads, and live in their homes. Yet one more element of escalating, and very clearly state-sponsored ethnic cleansing.
We’ll update on their status as soon as we hear.

Today, while protecting Palestinians, Brad Lander & a group of American rabbis & others were taken by the IDF. Releasing Brad isn't enough, the Israeli govt must release them all.
If this is how they treat Americans, imagine how they treat Palestinians. Trump & Rubio's silence fuels this impunity.

I’ve been detained by the IDF, along with a group of rabbis & volunteers. We were simply harvesting olives in a grove near Nehalim in the West Bank.
The occupation is a crime under international law. Harvesting olives isn’t a crime under any law I know.

The reported attack on Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine by West Bank settlers is unconscionable and a moment of reckoning for the world. Are we going to tolerate accelerating vigilante violence against Palestinian civilians and foreign observers by right-wing vigilantes who operate with government protection? Given that Trump lifted President Biden's sanctions on vigilante settlers, we must work to end this chaos and insist upon protection of human rights and the rule of law on the West Bank.
Dozens of masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers trying to gather their autumn olive harvest. Heidi Levine, a veteran photographer for The Post, was also knocked her to the ground, kicked repeatedly and stripped of her camera and phone.

I am cosponsoring @JoaquinCastroTX’s Stop the Settlements Act to enact mandatory sanctions on anyone involved with Israel’s settler expansion in the West Bank or Gaza, and ban imports from Israeli settlements.
These land grabs and the continued destruction of Palestinian property are unacceptable and do not advance attempts to achieve peace. These actions are forcefully displacing innocent civilians from their homes and will only lead to further violence in the region.

Mike Rogers spent over two decades in Washington advocating for forever wars in the Middle East and has been a staunch advocate for Donald Trump's illegal war in Iran.

New @nytimes reporting shows US Embassy officials in Israel are blocking info from Congress on the killings of Americans in the West Bank.
I'm calling on @SenatorRisch & the Foreign Relations Committee to hold a hearing into this coverup.
The American people deserve the truth.
Abdul El-Sayed is back on stage tonight, and this time Mike Rogers couldn’t dodge it. Watch him show again why he’s Michigan’s only real choice. Follow along 🧵
youtube.com/watch?v=QnaqO8zi…
Abdul has been clear all night about who comes first, and it’s not foreign governments. It’s Michigan.
"I want our tax dollars spent here to provide schools here. And by here, I mean, Michigan, not Florida. I want to make sure we've got good schools here and healthcare here. I want to make sure that we are taking care of people here. That is my priority."
Asked about sending weapons to Israel: "You asked a hypothetical question about [Israel] being attacked by Iran, but let's be honest about what happened here: Israel has pushed us to go to war in Iran. And of course, my colleague, who thinks there's a war for everything, went right along with it."
"I want unconditional support for kids in our schools. Unconditional support for our healthcare, childcare, things that [Mike Rogers] would vote to defund. So it's just inconsistent to me, to be running for Senate from Michigan, when you're more focused on what's happening to a foreign government than you are focused on what's happening to folks right here in Michigan." - @AbdulElSayed
That’s the whole choice in this race: @AbdulElSayed, a senator for Michigan, or Mike Rogers, a senator for everyone but Michigan.

More war has made us less safe, increased our prices, and cost servicemembers' lives. No war with Iran.
David Milstein — a top aide to Ambassador Huckabee — has been quietly editing the record. He buried a report on 9 Palestinian Americans killed when Congress was asking for answers. He swapped settler violence reporting for a cable praising Israel’s “crackdown." He rewrote cables on Gaza atrocities.
The job of an American diplomat is to tell Washington what is happening, not what a foreign government committing genocide wants it to hear. It's long past time for accountability. nytimes.com/2026/10/08/world…
Human rights conditions only work when they’re enforced. Thank you @RepMcGovern for calling for the release of the six Matsadaash journalists. xitter.cf/repmcgovern/status/210…
Egypt arrested an entire independent newsroom simply for doing their jobs.
Journalism is not a crime, and this attack on press freedom cannot stand. The six Matsadaash journalists must be released immediately.

He knows my name is Abdul. He says it everyday.
But he’s not just attacking me. He’s attacking all of us. He thinks so low of us. He thinks he can use my name and my faith to distract us from the suffering his policies are inflicting on us at the pump, at the grocery store, and at the doctor’s office. He thinks we don’t know any better.
It’s time for change.
