In #Galinsoor, #Galmudug, yesterday, to visit the #SRCS/#BishaCas clinic, supported by @ICRCSomalia_ since 1998, and meet communities and district authorities. Also a nice road trip from #Galkayo...
Could not agree more...
Somalia's humanitarian landscape is being reshaped by a mix of climate shocks and armed conflict. The biggest challenge we face is reaching civilians in hard-to-reach areas, where suffering runs deepest and help is hardest to deliver.
In this environment, the Somali Red Crescent Society brings something unique. We hold firmly to neutral, impartial, and independent humanitarian action, and we are deeply embedded in the communities we serve. This closeness builds trust and gives us access where others cannot go.
We must protect our Fundamental Principles and, above all, our volunteers. They are the trusted bridge to the most vulnerable people, and without them, help does not arrive.

Happy to be supporting #SRCS in its floods response, and to see it with my own eyes this week in #Galkayo...
Oct 25-31, with support from @ICRCSomalia_ , @SRCS Galkayo Branch completed Phase 1 of the dewatering response in Galkayo, removing stagnant water from priority areas hit by El Niño flooding.
We reached 4 schools, 5 health facilities, 4 IDP sites and 10 villages — supporting over 50,000 households. Phase 2 will target more critical areas and raise awareness on flood and health risks.

In Lower Shabelle, teams from the Somali Red Crescent Society - Merka Branch (#SRCS), together with local communities, have reinforced flood-prone zones in Janaale and Golweyn districts with sandbags to reduce flood risks.
Meanwhile in Lower Juba, our Kismayo Branch staff and volunteers are on the ground in riverine villages conducting flood awareness to strengthen preparedness and protect vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure.

Awareness is key as #ElNiño-related floods are expected in #Somalia this rainy season. @ICRCSomalia_ & #SRCS (#BishaCas) have developed visual tools to help communities prepare, including awareness messages & guides.

Millions in Somalia could be at risk as El Niño threatens severe flooding between October and January.
With the Somali Red Crescent, @ICRCSomalia_ is preparing: reinforcing riverbanks, protecting water points, stocking health facilities and training volunteers.
📍Somalia | In 2023, El Niño floods affected nearly two million people and displaced more than 500,000. Now, families along the Shabelle and Juba rivers face rising waters once again.
With a potentially record-breaking El Niño feared, @ICRCSomalia_ is working with the Somali Red Crescent Society to help communities prepare early and protect their homes and livelihoods.

In volatile, conflict-affected settings, neutrality is how we reach everyone. The moment an organisation is seen as taking sides, it loses access and trust, and entire communities and the knowledge they hold fall out of the conversation.
Neutrality isn't about whose voices we hear. It's about not favouring any party in how we engage. That's why inclusion is the goal, and neutrality is the means to get there.
We demonstrate our neutrality in delivering services to people in need across the country.

Ahead of the anticipated El Niño impacts, the SRCS (#BishaCas) is strengthening flood preparedness and early action through volunteer training, simulation exercises, and early warning outreach.
Through its Burao and Erigavo branches, SRCS has trained 45 staff and volunteers on disaster preparedness, first aid, early warning dissemination and community evacuation, and reached more than 8,700 people in flood-prone communities with critical, life-saving preparedness messages.
Join us in protecting more lives before the floods.

As the country braces for El Niño, our SRCS Beledweyne Branch is scaling up Early Warning, Early Action.
In Leebow village - one of the most flood-prone villages along the Shabelle River and heavily impacted by previous El Niño floods - our volunteers conducted door-to-door awareness sessions from 14-16 October 2026, reaching 400 households with life-saving messages on safe evacuation, water safety, and disease prevention.
With forecasts indicating above-normal rainfall and heightened flood risk along the Shabelle, early preparedness is critical to saving lives and livelihoods.
We continue to stand with communities at risk.

The Garowe Branch of the Somali Red Crescent Society (#SRCS) carried out a combined distribution of non-food items and provision of essential health services in the flood-affected village of Godob-yar, Burtinle District.
A total of 400 households were assisted, and a mobile health team was deployed to improve the health and well-being of the affected communities.
With the support of its #RCRCMovement Partners, the SRCS has completed its anticipatory action and preparedness measures for the #ElNiño floods and is fully geared to respond. We remain committed to ensuring we are ready to support those most in need.
