🦋 New paper out! Dry moth specimens retain only 30-40% of their original body mass. We derived correction factors to estimate fresh weight from museum collections. @NotaLepido | Open access nl.pensoft.net/article/18124… #Lepidoptera #Entomology #Moths @ANDIV1234

Really happy that a moth made it to the cover of @Nature! Thanks to my co-author Gunnar Brehm for this great photo 📸 Find our study on thermal limits in tropical insects in this week's issue: nature.com/nature/volum... @ANDIV1234 – at Würzburg, Germany

First #barcoding results in!
Exciting office times! We got back the sequences from all our tropical insect samples, from which many will be undescribed species. Had to learn how to handle that kind of data and how to create a phylogeny, but finally we got there - Aren't trees beautiful?! 🧬

All insect samples (almost 10,000!) collected along the tropical gradient @ANDIV1234 in Peru within a year of intense fieldwork are now on their way to the genetic lab for DNA #barcoding. Probably many of our samples will be new to the database. I'm very excited for the results! – at Würzburg, Germany

After several years of working with them, I still find the #sphingids beautiful and very fascinating. Here are some #hawkmoths from #Peru, collected as part of the @ANDIV1234 sampling project, and deposited in the Phyletic Museum in Jena, Germany. – at Jena, Germany
