They ruled that because she was wearing tight jeans, there must have been consent. In an act of solidarity, women lawmakers wore jeans to work and protested on the steps of the Italian Supreme Court. Solidarity actions soon spread around the world, starting in Los Angeles in April 1999. We wear denim on the last Wednesday of April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, to support survivors and to spread awareness and education around sexual violence."
