🎧 NEW Vandenberg Flash Focus - Ep. 75 | Farm Security is National Security
Chinese entities have infiltrated American industry across the country by masquerading as Western companies. A new report from America First Policy Institute dissects the case of Syngenta, a seed and crop protection company which claims Swiss ownership despite deep ties to Beijing. Joining us to delve into it all is the report’s author, @Adam_Savit, @a1policy Director of China Policy.
We discuss how Syngenta established a foothold in the American agriculture industry and how we should address this threat to protect American farming.

Syngenta is one of the world's largest agricultural companies, supplying American farmers with seeds, pesticides, and other products used to grow our food. But the company is owned by China.
For years, an Illinois farmer gave Syngenta an American face. Now, serious questions remain about foreign influence over American agriculture.
In his latest op-ed, AFPI's @Adam_Savit makes the case for treating Syngenta as a national security concern and taking action to protect America's food supply ⬇️
“Syngenta is not merely a Swiss company with a Chinese shareholder. It is an instrument of the Chinese state now run by a longtime executive of its Chinese parent company.”

Syngenta wants a $66B+ Hong Kong IPO, pitching itself as a biotech company. Same owner: Sinochem, a Chinese SOE. Treasury just proposed curbing U.S. investment in Chinese biotech. Investors and regulators should connect those dots.

FINALLY! @DHSgov just suspended the program that let Chinese enter the US territory of Northern Mariana Islands (next to Guam) VISA FREE.
Thank you to those who worked for this.🙏
Now for the corruption investigations asked for by the late Gov Palacios.

“This isn’t about globalization or free trade. It’s about who controls what American farmers plant, the data from our fields, and the security of our food supply.
Americans deserve to know who owns their food supply chain.”
Read AFPI's @Adam_Savit's latest report ⬇️
1/ For a decade, Syngenta’s answer to questions about Chinese ownership was an American face: Jeff Rowe, a fifth-generation Illinois farmer. On Aug 1, he was replaced by Hengde Qin, a 22-year veteran of Syngenta’s Chinese state-owned parent. 🧵
4/ Why it matters: Syngenta is one of four firms dominating seed and crop chemicals, invented and remains the primary producer of atrazine, and runs a digital platform collecting field-level data. Chinese law obliges companies to cooperate with the state when asked.
5/ Our own government already lists Syngenta’s parent, ChemChina, as a Chinese military company. The authorities to act already exist. No new legislation needed

NEW: Texas AG @KenPaxtonTX just proposed tighter rules on land ownership to keep China from buying up American land.
Other states must follow suit in order to protect American national security from CCP encroachment.

Truce extended to Jan 10. Beijing wanted the rest of the term.
Shorter isn't weaker, it's accountability. China is at 2/3 on its rare earth commitments.
Bigger structural problem: their success depends on overproduction, ours on closing the deficit.
