And a huge congratulations to @CleoPaskal, who has been single-handedly documenting Chinese influence ops in the Pacific Islands for years.

Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL): Undermining U.S. interests will be met with severe consequences. We are publicly designating Zhao Fugang, the Director of the Overseas Chinese Service Center in Fiji, for paying bribes to Fijian citizens to advance China-based government, business, and criminal interests.

77 years ago, marks the Chinese Communist Party founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). What’s followed is a decades-long legacy of systemic tyranny and human rights abuses, as well as a constant threat to the American way of life and our friends and allies all over the world.
On today's National Day of the PRC, I thought it would be a great time to remind the world of the things Xi and his thugs didn’t want you to know or think about when he came to visit last week ⬇️🧵

Cleo Paskal: If China is going to invade Taiwan, it needs to ensure that America cannot retaliate from U.S. soil. One of the main places where that could happen is Guam, so China is trying to put itself in a position to take Guam offline. @CleoPaskal

There is currently an active debate about U.S. policy in the Pacific Islands. Some are saying the U.S. is AWOL in the region. Others have said this is one of the most active times for U.S. engagement. buff.ly/aCnrx2z

Yes, the U.S. government is paying much more attention to the Pacific Islands region than it has in years. But few of its reports are written by people who have lived and worked in the region (or in some cases even visited), or who have spoken directly with Americans on the ground. buff.ly/aCnrx2z

We cannot allow China to take the islands in the Pacific. So far, we’re doing a great job of allowing the Chinese to do just that.

The correct PACOM: @USPACOM. Got confused after they dropped the "Indo" for some reason I still don't understand.

State used to have an Office of Pacific Island Affairs in the Bureau of East Asia/Pacific. Incentives matter, it should come back. There was a small cadre of folks who cared, did assignments in the Pacific and gave continuity. When PÍA went away, so did these officers.

“GET LOST!” Tiny Country Tells China to Get Out
Just a few years ago, the Solomon Islands was considered a lost cause to China because of how successfully the CCP had captured its government and embedded itself in the economy. But today, things couldn’t be more different. While the country’s top fighter against China is no longer with us, his work continues on through his advisor, who is now special secretary to the country’s new prime minister, and other civil servants who are keeping China’s influence at bay.
