I believe Epp is the first EBUG of the 2026-27 season, which makes him the first player to wear 00 in the NHL since Martin Biron in 1996.
The NHL banned the number in 1996-97, but have made it the mandatory number for all EBUGs in the NHL going forward.

The Edmonton Oilers’ team policy is that players must be in the Hockey Hall of Fame to have their numbers retired.
