Why do some patients with #FTD unexpectedly become visually artistic? What can this teach us about neural mechanisms underlying human creativity? Check out our new @JAMANeuro paper bit.ly/FTDCreativity @brucemillerucsf @UCSFmac @GBHI_Fellows #creativity 🧠🎨🧵

Our new paper exploring the link between atrophy in #FTD, recently evolved genes, and cryptically spliced genes is finally out in @Brain1878!

This Wednesday @BShofty will present findings on the connection between creativity and the brain's default network @ColumbiaPsych
Dr. Shofty studies the effects of stimulation during awake craniotomies to better preserve creativity and cognition

Mysterious and important!
Increased Cortical Thickness in Alzheimer's Disease

"Interfering with DMN activity through direct cortical stimulation...caused a decrease in #creativity, specifically reducing the originality of the alternate uses, without affecting creative fluency or mind wandering". Welcome to the future @BShofty &team bit.ly/DMNBS
So what is the brain network rebalance underlying the unexpected emergence of visual #creativity in #FTD?
What can we learn from it about human creativity?
This story is beautifully told by @samjscience @washingtonpost

I am looking to submit a Diversity Supplement to @NIHAging to hire a coordinator to work on cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging of aging, and emotions. Please spread the word, and if interested, reach out. I will be in person at #CNS2023 and at #AffectScience2023
This one made my (spring) day 🌸🌸🌸 #creativity

#Atypical community: Please submit your research for our special issue in Front Neurosci! We will include original papers, but also case reports and perspectives.
@UCSFmac community: Please don't hesitate to participate by writing a piece about interesting case(s) from the MAC!
Dear #AtypicalPIA #Alzheimers community, @NehaASingh4, @ISintini, @M_Chapleau and @KeirYong have put together a special Research Topic article collection on New Insights into Atypical AD in Front Neurosci.
Consider submitting your research!

I'm speechless.
Not peer-reviewed yet but a submitted paper.
The 'presented images' were shown to a group of humans. The 'reconstructed images' were the result of an fMRI output to Stable Diffusion.
In other words, #stablediffusion literally read people's minds.

What can we learn from this about brain network rebalance and neuroplasticity in the setting of neurodegenerative disease? We provide some thought-provoking answers
Outstanding talk by Anne Brunet @BrunetLab today at the @GladstoneInst. Such crystal clear and creative scientific thinking about fundamental aging mechanisms. (I am now thinking to get an aquarium with some African turquoise killifish)
